Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Stremio streams not working with Surfshark + TorBox alternative?English
1·13 days agoJellyfin is a different approach. My family loves to rewatch stuff and doesn’t necessarily need the newest content. So once something they like is on there, they are very content to have streaming like access to it whenever they like.
This does require setup, investing in storage and upkeep from you, so not for everyone. Well worth it if you have a family with watching habits like mine though.
I am very lucky to have a family that was patient while I figured all this out and tried different things over the years. Stremio sounds good on paper, but there was always some compromise with the quality or the ease. Especially if it was older content that is not necessarily mainstream.
Not saying this is the best answer for you, cause it could not to be. Just that I was looking for the same solution for my family and it took me to Jellyfin which they use all day every day now. They love it more than I could have imagined they would have and they never bother me to get a streaming service.

1·14 days agoI tired all of this. All I’ll say is the solution ended up being Jellyfin. Expecting people to set up VPNs and understand links is not going to work with a family

Privacy@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Parents warned not to publicly share children’s images amid AI abuse risksEnglish
10·14 days agoProblem is how do you get these people that are addicted to social media to stop posting the kids? Lots of parents see having a kid as the posting goldmine and all they want to do is post them so everyone thinks they have a cute kid or grandkid.
I’ve tried to stop people in my life from doing it and they just don’t get it. They look at me like I am crazy. I understand the dopamine hit, but it’s not innocent like in the 2010s. I think until these people see what can actually be created with an innocent photo, they will never stop.
Unfortunately some peoples whole lives are posting and they won’t accept reality.

1·18 days agoNot to put down Stremio, but it does end up being a lot of work sometimes when you could just pick from one of the dozens of websites and stream it from your laptop.
I know this is not a very slick setup, but then you only have to worry about the VPN.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Tesla autopilot crashes into a house and kills the woman living insideEnglish
29·25 days agoAmazing you can’t even be safe from cars while you are sitting in your own damn house. A whole building can’t protect you from cars.
Autopilot is idiotic and to blame for this, but cars have been driving through buildings while people are operating too. Lord knows at least a few times a year I see a building where one of the walls or large windows has a massive sheet of plywood and caution tape covering it because someone plowed their car through it.
There was also an incident in Canada in the last few years where a kid was run over and killed by a car while playing inside the building of his daycare. It came roaring through the window. The inside of a daycare is not safe from cars and that still blows my mind.
Maybe barriers would help some. Also building design that doesn’t have enormous windows large enough a car can easily break through. Ultimately though cars are just so dangerous to everyone in general. More trains and accessibility that helps take away the need for cars would be the best solution.

NHL is basically unwatchable now though with the digital ads on the boards and everywhere. I’ll go to a game in person where I can see the game IRL, but as for watching it on TV, that is done for me.

16·1 month ago$500! My god! You had me until there.
Some developers are idiots and think that the solution is so obvious when it is really not, or that the average gamer will have the time and patience to sus out their complicated design.
I used to feel shamed looking it up, but now I understand it is bad development and design if they created such a poor level that I have to look up the solution to finish it.

I’m thinking flip phone and taking an old Microsoft surface and putting Linux on it. I don’t see any other way to be open source where Google can’t fuck around with you.
I would do GrapheneOS, but I figure Google will find a way to block it or wreck it
