  • Curious, how do you know the team put him on that spot at the front? Maybe Checo is so nervous and anxious he ‘asks’ for those kind of actions as he thinks that will help him? I have seen panic in people before and they make the wrong calls all the time. And I have seen some that get worse when it just keeps on getting bad for them; they will force others in the team to make mistakes because he will ‘demand’ the action for he thinks it will help him.

I see this as a typical panicky move by a guy who has lost his way and the team is starting to give in because there is no helping a panicked man that will trust none from where the help might come. Classic mistake to make and that is all on Checo.

  • Sainz and RB/Max is not a good combo in my opinion. Sainz has ambitions, dreams.

Just like Checo, dreaming and fantasising that they also could become world champion! They are wrong and delusional if they have that in the RB 2nd seat. What RB needs is a safe pair of experienced hands that will be glad to be driving F1. No lofty ambitions, just the realisation what they are here for: help clinch constructors title and support Max in races so he is not sandwiched between competitors.
I.e. they need Hulkenberg, Ricciardo, Magnussen. That kind of driver.

I will give RB the benefit of the doubt though, they must have been baffled by the attitude and misplaced dreams of Checo and his entourage (nay, the entire population of Mexico). They gave an older reasonably good driver a lifeline back into F1 and then he gets uppity? And then underperforms like a rookie?

Boot Checo today if not tomorrow.

  • I agree. Had the same thought. Right now I think the influx will be tech savvy users fleeing reddit and have no big problems understanding Lemmy.

However, there will be (I hope!) a larger influx of ‘normal’ users wanting to check Lemmy out (my theory is that all the content creators are ending up here and the lurkers will start to follow content in the end) will have a hard time. Why bother them with instances or how you pick communities, how the fediverse works? Just allow people to sign-up, no forcing to choose server, one account only, deal with that login/create account when you end up on different servers, etc. Just make the initial access a smooth pane of glass. Later they can deep-dive in the tech if the so choose to. Just stop throwing tech into peoples faces, it really is as simple as that. Like someone else stated, if I drive a car I should not have knowledge about my engine, model/type of crankshaft, timing of the belt, etc. I have a garage for that sort of thing and I will not be bothered with details (unless I ask the mechanic of course).

I said this before and it seems that the ‘core’ or ‘old skool’ Lemmy users have issues with that, you should have to know the tech if you want to join.
I hope this will not be a typical open source/low level attitude of admins and tech savvy people where people are just lost in that tech maze. Whatever you need to run in the background, do whatever, just give me an alternative to reddit. This is not me speaking but I fear the average emigrating reddit user will want this simpleness. And why not give it to them, why force people to understand fediverse?

  • I think you are overthinking this a bit.

Max wants to win, everything. That is is his motivation. Although I would argue Lando in points and having the fastest lap would not motivate Max to take that away from Lando. From Checo though, he has to take those points.

And we have not seen the true pace of that car and Max. Both are held back and I fear we will never see the true pace of that RB19 + Max combination. It’s a bit sad tbh but if he is not pushed, you will never see the limit of them.

  • I’m still massively confused on the setup. Just like Mastodon, this Lemmy thing pushes fragmentation and technology and I just cannot wrap my head around it.

I would love to have a site ala reddit. There, that is it. I am not super interested in the techniques behind Lemmy but I must because there are ‘servers’, ‘communities’, etc. You can join one server but you might not see (or be able to search) other servers or whatever. The fragmentation is related to this point, I am going to have to hunt for specific ‘groups’ or ‘subreddits’ if you will, and hope it is complete because maybe another group, on another server, will have other content related to your interrest. I cannot even begin about posting items myself because I am already lost on that one, no idea what server to post or how it will be able to be seen by users.

So I can describe what I would like, so that other can gauge if Lemmy can meet that need, but the fragmentation and technique tells me I am in the wrong place to have this experience.

What I would like: Frontpage with generic ‘groups’ or ‘communities’ and my subscribed ‘groups’ or ‘communities’, all on the front page/one page, that scrolls continuously without bothering me with ‘techniques’ (choosing servers for example). I can certainly appreciate the techniques behind Lemmy (or Mastodon) but in the end I want to create 1 account, pull in some ‘subreddits’ in my account and when I go to the front page, I get to see all the articles related to the ‘groups’ or ‘subreddits’

In short: can I arrange Lemmy/Vlemmy in such a way that I get the same experience as I had on/with reddit?

I am looking for a replacement, not a challenge tbh. Again, fair play on the efforts of the devs but I want to keep my effort at a minimum on this one, I just consume and read news.
