6·2 days agoHow many keyboards have that key nowadays? I have not bought a new keyboard or laptop very recently.

Linux@discuss.tchncs.de•The new Microsoft copilot key is impossible to properly remap.
4·2 days agoI’m not old enough to remember those times; but why would you miss that? It’s certainly useful to have a meta/super key for desktop environment shortcuts, and I use the menu key as a compose key, though admittedly without the menu key I would probably put that on the right control key. :D
ahhh yes the system where darkgray is lighter than gray

Particularly interesting is this comment:
One really interesting addition to me is that the early internet was a very, VERY free speech place. It loved Gish Gallops of enormous numbers of arguments from all sides and the idea that you would tell anyone, even the most foolish, that they should be banned was verboten.
In fact, early atheists loved creationists posting! It gave them content because these people were so obviously wrong. And creationists the same, because it allowed them to fight back too.
The modern deplatforming support on both sides is another sign that that era is gone.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Vienna is converting on-street parking into greenspace to cool the city and discourage car useEnglish
3·4 days agoNot disagreeing with anything you wrote, but TBF that highway is planned as a tunnel below the national park. Still, more space for cars will cause an increase in traffic. Only way I could support this if they instead demolished part of the A23, maybe build a railway or tram track in its place, hey can’t a man dream… 😁😎

Linux@programming.dev•GNU/Linux or Just Linux? Between Purism and Everyday Usage
102·4 days agoThere is no operating system with either name. The operating systems are called Debian, Arch, Fedora, Ubuntu, etc.
We need a name to collectively refer to them. If we say “Linux” because they share the Linux kernel, ok, but so does eg. Android.
What better name is there to refer to the ones in the above list, but not Android, than “GNU/Linux”?

Krusader (or generally dual-pane file managers) is great once you get used to it. I have been using it (and Double Commander on Windows) for years now and wouldn’t want to get back to anything else.

It always looks funny tho. :D
