Idk how much of this is true, but I heard that she got selected in part due to her husband being on the judge panel in the regionals, as well as many dancers boycotting the competition in the spirit of not wanting break to be institutionalised by the olympics as an “objective sport” that can be measured in points, similar to ballroom and figure skating where it becomes more about busting out the most physically impressive/complex moves rather than treating it as an artform in any meaningful sense. I think she’s a ballroom dancer as well, which I think explains the “out of place” seeming moves she kept going for. The bunnyhop in particular was supposed to represent a kangaroo to rep Australia, but just came off goofy asf.
