The software used for noailist.org is called textpattern - https://textpattern.com/ - it is open source, and if I had to describe it, I’d say it is a no-fuss article posting system with RSS included - a perfect fit for this project, but also really good for blogs and news websites.

It did take some effort to separate the media hype from the real breakthroughs. At the time I was doing it, there were some real breakthroughs in medical, energy, etc, that were obvious breakthroughs- often they would be featured on places like Quanta Magazine as a video: https://www.youtube.com/@QuantaScienceChannel

I like Marginalia too, I have found some cool stuff on there. I do wish their crawler did find new pages faster though. There seems to be a lot of pages out there that it is missing. Looking at all the other search options, most of them seem to use Google/Bing index, which the quality seems to be deteriorating. That makes it quite important that other Search Engine index’s grow (and hopefully they don’t start using AI, which doesn’t seem to help web discovery very much).

Yes, It sounds like https://piefed.social/c/fedigrow@lemmy.zip has offered to include this in their community. As a side note, it could be worth encouraging “new community suggestions” beyond within communities, perhaps.

Ok, If you feel the information has large errors, then provide some constructive feedback and I will consider updating the bite size paragraph of information. What you are doing is actually both criticising wikipedia and insulting my ability to summarize. Both of these are not constructive to my work, time and effort that I am putting into this project as a benefit to people who may really want to learn something. If this is the kind of push back I’m getting for a non-profit science project, in a science community, that discourages me from wanting to post anything here at all. Is that your aim?

The information is from wikipedia yes, there is a link to the wikipedia article if you want to read more linked see “Source”. The whole idea is to present bite sized info that is not written by AI… and encourage further reading. If you feel the information is incorrect, then perhaps you need to edit the wikipedia article.

This is a good developer project idea. I will post the idea in foss communities.
