Television@piefed.social•The Gilded Age Season 4 | Official Trailer | HBO MaxEnglish
2·5 days agoI mean, I’m with you but the show is fiction, it’s okay for the writers to have the main character come down on the right side of history and not be a union busting shitbag. If anything I’m just happy the laborers were highlighted as having real grievances and solidarity actually worked…

6·5 days agoI’m hyped for this. Love Coogler’s work and X-Files is a great show with an evergreen premise but could also use a bit of an update.
No more algorithms! Quicksort? Banned. Sieve of Eratosthenes? Banned. Djikstra’s? Super banned!
If you even mention a red black tree, you’re the one that’s gonna be red and black, son.

Television@piefed.social•What are you watching, and what do you recommend?English
3·10 days agoDS9 is the GOAT.
I actually think SNW does an okay job developing characters (we’ve learned a lot about individuals), but it has some great episodes, some terrible ones and a lot of very mid ones.

1·11 days agoOh shit the third Semiosis came out? Loved the first couple, how did I miss that?
I work close to firmware and this is how we all say it, and we say it often. When speaking to execs it’s always said by pronouncing each letter. You can watch us code shift (lingually) in meetings depending on who is asking the question.

TenForward: Where Every Vulcan Knows Your Name@lemmy.world•Before it ends, should SNW feature a guest appearance from T'Pol? Or Soval?
2·25 days agoYeah, I agree, I’m just a little triggered. The issue I have is less that it wouldn’t make sense and more that the entirety of the Discovery era shows are laced with cameos and the novelty isn’t there like it was for those TNG cameos.
… Really I just have ENT PTSD.

231·25 days agoWhat they should do is have the entire series be a holodeck program Riker is running during the events of a TNG episode. That’ll definitely be a satisfying finale, right?

Television@piefed.social•Strange New Worlds gimmick episodes!English
6·1 month agoYeah, I agree. The musical was great in part because it stood out from the rest of the season. I do think there’s some good Trek in the genre episodes and it’s actually not too far off from the other series doing their holodeck/time travel/western etc. episodes but with half as many episodes I wish it was more consistent in tone.
clunky and slow interface of email that for some reason we continue using 30 years later
Email is actually great, it’s the original fediverse - anyone can start a server and interoperate with everyone else. With a decent client it doesn’t need to be clunky either, although with 90% of people stuck in webmail I can understand why people think it sucks.

Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•New 'Star Trek' Movie Writers Tease "Dark" Story And New FranchiseEnglish
7·2 months ago“Two movies we cite as comps for what we’re hoping to do are Training Day and Crimson Tide,” Goldstein tells Inverse.
Hmm, I like both of those movies but way different vibes. Crimson Tide might as well already be a Trek script, but Training Day? Freshly minted Captain versus effective but corrupt badmiral perhaps? XO and captain maybe?
My hopes this will be made are pretty low, but there could be some good Trek here. Especially if they actually made a movie that wasn’t a cameo fest (it does say all new characters).

News@lemmy.world•Is Paramount zeroing in on Texas amid California legal battle?
41·2 months agoI’m not sure I agree this is an awful location if you’re going to make a big studio campus. It’s not in Austin atm but it will be eventually (it’s currently surrounded) and 290/183 are useful veins. You say “outside Manor” like it’s also not ~10 miles from the capitol and downtown. In LA terms that’s basically nothing.
That said, as an eastsider, yeah fuck the billionaires generally and the Ellisons specifically.
Trans? More power to you.
CIA? Go fuck yourself.
Haha, me too. I watch a streamer, Vulrhund, fight ten thousand zombies and end up in a powered bachelor pad that he built, plastered, painted and furnished over the course of an in game year…
Meanwhile I have like 500 hours and my last death was eating lethal mushrooms I foraged on day three. My best run ever was maybe 2.5 months. I’m not sure I’ve ever actually lived long enough to harvest any crops I planted.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Should I Read a Brian Hebert Dune Novel?
12·2 months agoIf you’ve read all the OG Dune content, I say go for it. They aren’t at the same level, but they’re… Fine. Get it from the library or wherever and try it. Go in with low expectations and possibly get pleasantly surprised, or never pick them up again.

I don’t think it’s directly related to ABV/proof, but it can definitely taste that way. “Drier” drinks tend to not mask the alcohol as much, IMO. For example, the main difference between sweet and dry vermouth is how much sugar is in them, but they tend to be basically the same ABV.
