  • You don’t have to know how to write your own software to install another App Store on Android.

Amazon has their own competing app store, with boomer-friendly instructions for installing it:

And Amazon’s phones and tablets use their own “FireOS” remix of Android without Google Play Store available.

I prefer the OS being open to third-party installers over any legal mandate that app stores not being allowed to curate their own store’s offerings. Closing off Google’s app store to competing app stores only makes sense if other app stores have no reasonable access to customers, which is clearly not the case.

Complete bullshit that they’re throwing this ruling at Android when iOS doesn’t even let you download and install a third-party app without either jailbreaking, or hooking up your iPhone in developer mode to a computer running xcode. Apple treats Cydia like it’s malware. Google perfectly tolerates Amazon and F-Droid running their own operations.

  • I really don’t get your point here. Kevin Smith makes a low budget short film over two years ago and releases it as NFT tokens, and this alone curses his other 14 films, spanning three decades, forever?

I get not liking NFTs, but this is a weird way to cope with the fact that they exist. Kevin Smith was honestly quite rational about this one too, admitting that he had no idea if NFTs were a good idea, and that the project could blow up in his face. He just wanted to see what would happen. With Beeple hauling $69M that same year, I can’t blame him that much for the attempt.

And, this is just a nitpick, but your clapback here doesn’t even make sense:

Sounds like you are embarrassed that you bought an nft movie.

First, they said they never even heard of this movie until you informed them about it, so kinda weird to conclude that they bought it.

Second, if one just discovered that a movie they bought had been sold via NFT, how would that be embarrassing? If they own it without exchanging crypto, they bought with fiat currency, and really that’s a worthwhile slap in the face to the ethos that motivates NFTs.

If anything, grabbing a pirated copy of this film to watch would be a great way to stick it to the crypto bros. I’m gonna do that right now.

Embarrassing for you that you just successfully promoted an NFT movie.

  • This is such a dumb argument. Yes, what Israel is doing to Palestine is horrific. Yes, our government is tacitly supporting this by funding Israel and providing them with bombs. Yes, Kamala Harris is soft on Israel despite this.

I don’t like it, but this narrative that Harris is somehow in favor of Genocide, while her only viable opponent is not, is complete fucking bullshit. Trump is enthusiasticly pro-Israel is is having private meetings with Netanayahu as a civilian right now - and he’s openly fighting against a ceasefire. I wish Harris was stronger on this, and would make a bigger point of stopping what Israel is doing, but she’s still the obvious lesser fucking evil.

But right now she has little to no power to do anything about it because she has both President Biden and Congress between her and the issue, and she can’t do anything about it until she is actually President. Being too strongly anti-Israel before the election could cost her the election, so from her perspective, even if she did have stronger feelings on the severity of this issue, she might strategically have to hide it for the sake of actually winning the election (literally the only thing that matter if you want a chance at implementing policy).

All I know is that between Harris and Trump, we already know what kind of president Trump is, so anyone actively campaigning to hand him another term, especially after his promises of mass-deportations, mass-arrests, criminalizing criticism of the courts, and literally “being a dictator”, you are my fucking enemy.

So, quick follow up question: When Trump wins, fascism replaces our representative democracy, and we are forced to wage a war against those who brought us here to reclaim our rights and way of life, where will you hide?

  • The website states that Trump’s name and image are used under a paid license from CIC Ventures, a company Trump reported owning in his most recent financial disclosure.

lmao, he literally can’t own his likeness anymore. Elected officials permanently lose their ability to own their own likeness.

Obama objected to companies using his likeness in advertisements, but he couldn’t ever do anything about it because he’s the president and the First Amendment lets you do whatever you want with the name and likeness of an elected official.

Even the “Trump” trademark could be dissolved if he tries enforcing it.

On that note, anyone could make duplicates of his book without issue, because the Bible and the Constitution are public domain, and Trump’s name and likeness can’t be protected from misuse. Lots of funny things could be done in that regard.
