    Costs. EV cars are still too expensive for the average person. Not everyone makes the salary of Lemmy posters.

    To buy an EV car, besides the fact they are expensive, most would have to pay for a huge upgrade in their electrical system to update enough to charge at home.

    Right now, EV’s are an option for upper-middle class people.

      used Bolts go for $15k-20k. used Leaves and i3s even cheaper.

      most people only need level 1 charging at home, and even if level 2 is needed it’s not necessarily a huge electrical system upgrade. if someone has an electric clothes dryer, that circuit could be used with a device that switches off the dryer’s supply whem an EV gets plugged in.

        My used manual hatchback, cost me $5K used last year, and gets 45mpg. My house was built in 1975. Brother, no way am I gonna pay for any of that stuff you listed.
