Unless you’re super rich, of course. Then the IRS can’t afford to go against your army of lawyers and comb through your numerous tax avoidance schemes and just leaves you alone. #MURICA
So, basically, it’s not much different from the rest of the world then. The working class goes to prirson for evading tax on a lawnmower, the rich get a slap on the wrist for stealing millions… good to know.
While it’s indeed something that happens all over the world, it’s more extreme in the US than any other Western country.
They might have ditched the English nobility titles with the revolution, but it’s actually much more divided by class than England now.
Every billionaire basically being a Duke and politicians of both parties bowing and scraping to them, catering to their whims and greed over the needs of the people much more than in for example West, North and even South Europe.
That’s because the US is in “advanced” capitalism now, the rest are playing catchup.
Plus, from what I’ve seen in the US regarding politics, elections, etc. in the last 10 years or so, is that US polititians (in general) are taking examples from late capitalism/democracy adopters, such as the eastern European block. I can tell you for a fact that some scams I’ve seen being done by polititians in the US were not invented in the US. They’re eastern block practices to drive up votes for one party or another, to distract the people from a certain fiasco, to stage a coup, etc. They’re just plays to keep the public defocused regarding real problems, make drama on purpose.
I’m actually kinda surprised it took the US this long to see that these things can be used to control things regarding politics and the masses. It’s been common practice in most east European countries for the past 30 years or so.
