What dumbass chose the word “dual” for being loyal to only one country? I thought it’d mean loyalty to two countries at once.
I think it’s because there’s another layer. You can have loyalty to two countries (e.g. dual citizens), but nationalists clearly don’t like that and see it as traitorous and deceitful.
It’s applying a neutral thing to someone (on the basis of their ethnicity even if/though it’s not true) then saying that thing is bad, actually.

It should never be read as, dual loyalty, and always as “dual” loyalty
. Where the person or people accused of having a dual loyalty are only loyal to one thing and are just faking any loyalty to the other.
