“We need to stop trusting the experts,” Kennedy told Tucker Carlson.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. appeared on the latest episode of Tucker Carlson’s podcast on Monday and it’s filled with the ramblings of a man completely detached from reality.
Kennedy falsely suggested vaccines cause autism, more or less endorsed the idea that Anthony Fauci should go to prison, and says that AI will allow the FDA to approve new drugs very quickly. It’s quite a mess.
These absolutely unhinged ideas wouldn’t be such a problem if this were any other fringe lunatic appearing on the podcast of a racist former Fox News host. But Kennedy happens to be the Secretary of Health and Human Services, a man who’s been given enormous power over America’s entire healthcare system thanks to Donald Trump.
Just what we need another dumbfuck mixing chemicals to ki… er cure us
The FDA is already run by a hallucinating entity in fairness; so the impact should be less severe than other areas LLMs are introduced for decision making.
Um, maybe this is something I’m too Canadian too understand, but if you are not going to trust the experts, who are you supposed to trust?
AI and money of course. Mostly money.
Republicans: “The vaccines were approved too quickly—they’re not safe!”
Also Republicans:
Sidenote: the vaccines were based on research that had been worked on for decades.
Me, a retail health care consumer: “Are we talking about preventative treatments like vaccinations? Or mild narcotics like marijuana? Or contraceptives, like Plan B?”
RFK Jr: “Arrest that man.”
This was quite literally his conspiracy theorists groups’ entire complaint! Wtf
Your mistake is looking for consistency when it’s actually just people and bots pushing false narratives. It’s not an honest discussion where participants are bound to the rules of logic; they’re just exploiting the fact that you think they’re engaging in discourse and behave accordingly.
I asked Copilot if my new medication that cures 100% of pancreatic cancer by giving 100% of the patients liver cancer would be approved, and it told me that it would receive ‘conditional approval’. So, that’s good.
I’m sorry, he wants to trust algorithms known to make shit up, over scientists who get paid by big pharma to lie? /s
scientists who get paid by big pharma to lie?
Low key, unironically. The FDA has a disturbing history of approving certain medications and treatments before they’ve been safely tested and restricting certain medications and treatments because they’re politically polarized. Elon’s brain chip keeps getting ignored by regulators. Weight loss drugs and smoking alternatives keep getting special treatment. Meanwhile, mild narcotics and modern contraceptives are constantly bottled up by partisan regulators.
The joke of all this is RFK Jr effectively doubling down on the politicized system under the cover of “Computer Said So”.
Tell me you don’t know how AI works without telling me you don’t know how AI or drug testing works.
It’s only risking people’s health… What could go wrong…
Why is this man so dead set on making the worst decisions? God…
Made Fast, made safe, made effective.
Pick two*.
^*safe is not valid if fast is chosen^
Sugar pills and saline are decently safe and can be made pretty fast
Suglets are delicious. Especially sprayed with amphetamines.
Sounds like tictacs and Gatorade.
New measles treatment just dropped!
Am I not supposed to be operating off of those?
I dunno, the Covid vaccine got prioritized and through the process pretty fast.
The first mRNA vaccine for covid was synthesized within a month of the national emergency declaration. But there was about a year of trials and approvals before it was allowed to be mass distributed.
Which is still blindingly fast. It got EUA or emergency use authorization. Most drugs take 5-10y of trials not including the decade+ of basic R+D to reach approval.
A large reason for that speed was other mRNA vaccines in trials safely for a few decades and the adenovirus being in use for other vaccines already.
other mRNA vaccines in trials safely for a few decades
The Oxford/AstraZeneca adenoviral vaccine has some human testing history, but the mRNA technology had only previously been tested on animals.
Not the specific diseases(cause covid-19 didn’t exist), the technique/methodology. MERS and SARS are different things.
Adenovirus was used as far back as the 1963 (it had problems then), for “resporatory disease”. and was used for ebola vaccines as recent 2020. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9543183/#B84
mRNA (very much not DNA) was trialed in the 1990s to treat flu in mice and in a human rabies vaccine attempt in 2013. https://publichealth.jhu.edu/2021/the-long-history-of-mrna-vaccines
That long history link isn’t very long. This seems to be better.
Before Covid only 132 humans over 2 efficacy (not safety) trials had experienced mRNA. Saying mRNA has had decades of safety trials is misleading.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MRNA_vaccine
The first (indirect) human mrna vaccine was trialed in 2001. A different direct infection trial was reported (completed and analyzed) in 2008 it was a safety and efficacy trial. Then there was the 2013 rabies trial (101 participants safety trial) then others for flu, zika, cmv, and chikungunya. This isn’t a very complete list of the trials that occurred as many of the early ones were for cancers.
You can see a more complete but not necessarily full list of in progress and completed mrna trials https://clinicaltrials.gov/search?intr=Mrna easily noted is that between the rabies vaccine and the HIV (both before covid19 existed) there are already over 151 people that received it and both trials were safety trials. That’s before the aforementioned cancer trials, your source is wrong. Unless it is for something rare safety trials are always done first or(more recently) in combination with the efficacy trial.
Not instantly though. They did the work, they just did it as fast as they possibly could.
In vaccine timelines pretty much instant no?
At this point I’m not going to be looking to the US institutions for medical recommendations. I’ll be looking at Canada and the UK.
And I’m fortunate enough to be day trip range to canada, so as long as the border stays open I’ll be able to get vaccines.
If he’s so confident he and his family can take them first
Confidence without expertise is like baking a cake and saying you’re not sure if there was shit in the batter.
He’s disconnected from reality by his wealth and power excluding him from consequences to his actions and beliefs, and disconnect from morality by the same leading to corruption and immorality.
He’s the billionaire narcissist confidently taking his sub down to see the Titanic and bringing us all down with him.
Every day, I see headlines that make me wonder how The Onion hasn’t gone out of business.
I mean, how do you even compete?
