An enormous opportunity for the state to surveil and control the populace that is.
And (probably) for his friends who happen to just have the tech handy to realise this project and weirdly get the tender for it. Oh he works at that place now that he’s done woth being a politician? Nothing wrong with that!
No offense, but are the Brits so worried about ID Cards?
I don’t get it. Don’t you already have cameras everywhere in London?
Yes, but we don’t actually want that.
We live in a surveillance state and don’t want it to go further.
Most of us are not in London.
Nor are we all happy about the existing surveillance already.
And this is a different and worse beast.
Those cameras are not denying us access to services, not preventing our access to work, not keeping a permanent record of everything we do, not a tool to be abused by whichever subsequent government to appease whatever prejudices they have, not “mandatory”.
“You will not be able to work in the United Kingdom if you do not have digital ID. It’s as simple as that.”
Ah, I get it. The idea is to give a massive boost to the underground economy, forcing everyone without a digital ID to work completely off the books.
And to identify everyone at a protest for example…
Protesting is illegal already, ID changes nothing
Nailed it.
Orwellian as ever.
Same as how prohibition does not prevent. Prohibition makes the good things bad, and the bad things worse.
