The “troubled teen industry” needs to be dismantled. I was sent to a military academy that willfully ignored abuse of students by other students for disciplinary reasons. It only got attention when a fight, sanctioned by students with higher “rank,” put a kid into a coma. I wish I’d sued when I became an adult (statute of limitations undoubtedly has passed). They allowed horrible abuse.
IANAL but I think there are laws in place in many places that allow the statute of limitations for actions done to minors to not start ticking until they become an adult. Depending on how old you are it may still be possible.
I had a friend in high school who was sent to a military academy for two years. He had nothing but bad things to say about it.
The same guy had a little brother who wanted to do drama club plays like his brother and I did, but his dad forced him to play football instead.
I totally lost touch with both of them, so I have no idea how they turned out, but all I can say is they’re lucky their father is super wealthy.
Tennessee has had a real problem for quite some time involving sending any child deemed even slightly disruptive to these for-profit detention centers.
For example- https://www.propublica.org/article/new-bill-seeks-to-remove-tennessee-judge-who-illegally-jailed-children
One of the authors made a podcast about it. It’s fucking heartbreaking and maddening. That judge should be jailed.

Jailed and forced to listen to statements from all affected individuals. They need to understand just how evil and selfish their conduct is. They might have known but some people ignore victims if they are not in their sight.
This isn’t the worst thing to happen at these sorts of places
Sounds very similar to the Elan School: https://elan.school/
It’s distressing that such schools and centers can exist and thrive.
