So I’m a huge Diablo fan. Played 1-3 religiously (no pun intended). I had intended on getting the fourth when it came out but a couple people told me they were a little unhappy with the initial release.

I remember the same thing happened with D3 when it was released but after a few patches it really turned into a great game IMO.

I was just wondering how the current play was on the PS5? What’s everyone’s take on it currently?

I was a huge diablo fan since I played a demo of the first one in the 90s.

I didn’t get Diablo 4 because blizzard today sucks. bobby kotick can fuck right off.

So I voted with my wallet. Path of exile is still good and free. Grim Dawn is also good.

I haven’t bought it, but it is online only and is heavily geared towards battle passes, season passes, the store and microtransactions from what I’ve seen. I’m still on Diablo 3.

I played it on PC, the game is very grindy and still very unbalanced. The biggest problem is the scaling, you never feel like you get powerful because the enemies get just as strong as well, so it just feels like grind for the sake of grind.

The cooldowns on skills/spells are annoying and hampers gameplay, especially if you’re playing as a Sorc which is badly nerfed. Also, the lack of a mana potion mechanic means you can’t spam spells, so you have to keep switching back to your basic spell - which is rubbish.

The loot isn’t really memorable and even “legendary” items feel like junk and don’t have the same sort of oomph like the loot in D2.

The monsters are dumb and unimaginative, with stupid names like “horror”, “arsonist” or “beast” - which is just a frikking bear. They don’t even make any cool/cute grunts or noises, it’s like they’re lifeless. Like the Fallen, not only do they look weird in D4 for some reason, they no longer shout “Rakanishu!” or “Colenzooo!”. It’s like they just made some random trash mob for some generic ARPG - there’s nothing Diablo-y about them. Actually, the same could be said about the whole game, it just feels soulless. No memorable NPCs either with iconic dialog (remember Cain’s “Stay awhile and listen”? you won’t see any such NPCs here).

TL;DR if you liked the Diablo series because it was Diablo and not just because it was an ARPG, then you’ll hate D4. But if you like Diablo because it’s an ARPG and you like ARPGs and blind button mashing and don’t really care about the atmosphere, details, story, gameplay, loot etc, then you may enjoy D4.

I couldn’t explain why I just quit playing it without finishing. This comment sums it up pretty well.

It’s great til about Level 55, which is about ten levels after the story finishes. After that it depends on your tolerance for grinding Vs how much you enjoy the gameplay. It’s best in class for gameplay but grindiness, battle pass, online only and seasonal content damages the experience.

Yea I took a couple characters to max level hoping I’d find the fun that I had in 3. Never found it though.

I basically echo all the good things everyone here had to say about it but I find the stats on items maddening to the point where it’s not intuitive or fun to try to produce your own builds. If you like following a recipe, it can be fun. There are too many item stats and they don’t work exactly as advertised. Getting a "1% increased crit " on a piece of gear does not equal 1% crit for your character.

Just like in D3, the always online nature of the game doesn’t add anything but here it produces a lot more disconnects that eventually frustrated me from playing any further.

It plays great on ps5, and a lot of the initial controversy around micro transactions was wrong, you’re not forced to buy them and it’s not in your face or pay to play.

Personally, I found the voice acting and cut scenes poorly done, so my wife and I got bored of the game quickly instead of getting into the story like we did in Diablo 3.

The reviews online are largely bandwagoning about micro transactions, so take them with a grain of salt. There’s plenty of cool looking gear in the base game.

I didn’t even know there were micro transactions for the first 3 months lol. That’s how prevalent they are. It’s true that it’s season pass focused but most games are now. Battlepass gets you cosmetics that just allow customization. Agree that the reviews online seem to have been copy pasted from the first person outraged at micro transactions they never needed to use. 😁

I play it off and on. It’s a good game to play casually or binge for a few days to make some progress. But I find myself taking weeks in between me playing.

Since the launch of the game I’ve always said it’s going to be a slow drip of content, blizzard is going to milk the hell out of this game. It didn’t even release with sets. They have been making positive changes in it, but the content is still lacking tremendously.

For context, I played diablo since the first title, an unhealthy amount of 2, and only a little of 3 until I figured out it was pretty bad.

It was fun during main company, but when main lore and vampire quests finished - seems pointless for me to keep grinding to get top items for…better grind 🤷‍♀️ Seasonal heroes also not a best desigion as for me. So i will do a second run for another character in a next season.

Honestly, if you’re a Diablo fan than you definitely should play it. I would say all elements of the game were improved upon comparing to previous installments. It has its issues, yes, but they’ve been mostly exaggerated by the fanbase and are mostly related to continuous end game activities. From all Diablos it has the best graphics (obviously), story, mechanics, end game etc.). It takes the best elements of previous games (the dark, bloody theme of 1., expanded world, more interesting story and skills tree from 2.), focus on skills builds, replayability and multiplayer from 3.). It’s issue is that it’s another installment in a beloved series so the expectations were a bit higher. So there’s technical improvement in every aspect, however comparing the experience/enjoyment at the time of playing, I would say Diablo 2 was better at the time. I’d say it’s on equal with Diablo 3 in that matter, hard to compare with D1. Overall I rate it 8/10 - definitely worth playing for an average player and must-play for a Diablo fan. Played so far with 3 characters, will come back to try others sometime later.

    It’s currently on sale.

Not a bot, that’s my opinion of the game. Not sure why the downvotes.

EDIT: oh, I see. Someone is asking about the game and it’s better to upvote opinions of people who haven’t played the game. to

Downvotes are definitely because of the shameless advertising at the end of your comment. For a bot i gotta say it seems almost like a real person.

All WarCrafts (RTSs), StarCrafts and Diablos were great. I don’t care about WoW, Overwatch or Hearthstone.

The versions they created prior to selling out to activision were great. Everything they created since the acquisition is dog shit.

They were a great studio but they died as soon as they were acquired.
