I myself am from the USA but I really can’t think of anything. I do know of some right-wingers from my old high school who liked leftist stuff but I can’t think of what they are off the top of my head. Maybe Star Trek, does that count?

2 “If you buy a Hebrew servant, he is to serve you for six years. But in the seventh year, he shall go free, without paying anything.

3 If he comes alone, he is to go free alone; but if he has a wife when he comes, she is to go with him.

      1. If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the woman and her children shall belong to her master, and only the man shall go free.

5 “But if the servant declares, ‘I love my master and my wife and children and do not want to go free,’

6 then his master must take him before the judges. He shall take him to the door or the doorpost and pierce his ear with an awl. Then he will be his servant for life.

7 “If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as male servants do.

8 If she does not please the master who has selected her for himself, he must let her be redeemed. He has no right to sell her to foreigners, because he has broken faith with her.

9 If he selects her for his son, he must grant her the rights of a daughter.

10 If he marries another woman, he must not deprive the first one of her food, clothing and marital rights.

11 If he does not provide her with these three things, she is to go free, without any payment of money.

This is Exodus 21:2-11. It supports slavery; restrained, non-racial slavery, but slavery nonetheless.

The bible does not construct a consistent moral framework; it has vastly different - even contradictory - moral messaging because it is multiple texts written and constantly revised by multiple people who lived hundreds or even thousands of years apart, in different parts of the world, and for many different reasons. By picking and choosing which parts of the bible to emphasize you can use it to support a wide range of moral arguments. This is both a feature and a bug for charlatans throughout history who use it as a means of control.

Leviticus 25 is not so restrained.

“As for the male and female slaves whom you may have, it is from the nations around you that you may acquire male and female slaves. You may also acquire them from among the aliens residing with you and from their families who are with you who have been born in your land; they may be your property. You may keep them as a possession for your children after you, for them to inherit as property. These you may treat as slaves, but as for your fellow Israelites, no one shall rule over the other with harshness.”

Fellow hebrews are servants for a free years and shouldn’t be treated harshly. Foreigners are property for life and harshness is expected.

That’s very true! My girlfriend’s other queerplatonic partner is a Christian who respects LGBTQ and is pretty left-wing on a lot of talking points, and they actually don’t believe in discrimination like the right does.

Not true at all. Despite what ‘christians’ like to say the Bible is a horrific book with insanely oppressive and cruel morals. Being christian, an actual christian, and left wing is impossible. Most progressive christians are either not progressive or following their own made up spirituality that they call christianity

You don’t get to decide what Christianity is or who identifies with the term.

‘The bible is bad’ seems profoundly confused and perhaps more a ragequit of some novel protestant style 66 book idol worshiping.

I don’t decide what a christian is, the doctrine of christianity does that. And guess what? The doctrine is clearly laid out in an insane book that you could go read right now.

I can’t declare myself a bodhisattva if I’m a self centered hedonist because i just define it that way.

There is no ‘doctrine of Christianity’ and it’s not clearly laid out in any insane book I’m aware of.

The Christian tradition is vast, wide and ancient.

If you do not believe in the bible, an insane book, you aren’t christian. Period.

Again, that’s not really up to you. Saying “period” doesn’t matter as it’s easier to dismantle a monster of your making.

Maybe read some early stuff that never made the canons as you would an novel anime, may be easier as they carrier less weird baggage and are often just as good, if not better, than those that did. Harry Potter is the new virgin magus messiah touching death to save the world for the masses that don’t want to go to masses, it’s fine but it’s far worse than the OG stuff imr.

I gather you are not aiming to, but you are playing the game and fervently evangelizing for some novel, likely US protestant strain of the Nicene machine, on the socials as the true Christianity and everything else as heresy. Consider not doing that.

Consider the dead Christians, the heretics, those that were tortured and burned or had their works condemned and names dragged though the mud for coming on 2000yrs now. Basildes was pushing some cool Christian memes long before ‘believe in the bible’ would go viral for example and they had to start burning Diatesserons by the hundreds, but this kinda stuff has always been there.

Calling the bible ‘an insane book’ makes me think you are not overly well versed here, at basic ‘the bible’ is a rather vast and varied collection of texts that have been in flux for millennia and how one works with these traditions is very much open to interpretation, and inspiration . The Tewahedo canon or the First New Testament might be worth a peek for a gentle intro.

Assuming you are somewhat familiar with the scriptures I suppose the big question is what did you expect when heading into, presumably modern re-imaginings in English, sacred histories, theology, philosophy and scripture from ~3rd century BCE to 3rd century CE? Is the entire period of literature insane in your reading or just the few scraps that made into the protestant canon that stand out, or…?

Depends what chapter you’re reading. Multi genocide, pro slavery, women should be silent property, homosexuals are sinning, impregnating a minor without her consent, eternal torture chamber owner for not kissing his ass isn’t leftist. Intergenerational forever curse for eating a fruit before having the knowledge not to sounds like a control freak abusive nutter to me.
