Doctors at the time did not think of left-handedness as a problem. It was a cultural and religious belief that made people force their kids to be right-handed.

Happened to me too. Was threatened with (and expanded) violence of varying magnitudes by school teachers to fix it or else.

I’m not against corporal punishment though, as I consider it effective, as long as it is properly justified and applied.
