    Meanwhile in the Known Issues: “Entering Exclusive fullscreen mode crashes the game on Wayland”

    You’d think they’d fix something like that before making the game Wayland-first.

      Sorry, I should note that 26.3 is not released yet. This is a “snapshot”, aka a development build. The full version of 26.3 will be released in a couple of months.

      I updated the title to reflect that 26.3 is not released yet.

      this is a snapshot, so bugs like these are to be expected. it’s almost certainly getting fixed before the full release

      one previous snapshot had a known bug where if the vulkan renderer (back then the default iirc) was used on macos, the entire screen would be pink upon joining a world, making the game unplayable. it got fixed in the following snapshot.

      This is what keeps me unfortunately from fully committing to switching. Linux is definitely expanding rapidly but there’s just certain things that don’t rock well enough or it’s an absolute ball ache to get it to work

        @deft @palordrolap

        for the time it needs for some people to fix without income the issue microsoft which has a huge amount of income created, an informed customer can maybe use some alternatives to have fun:

        minecraft alternatives you can buy ( and are supported on linux )
        - Hytale
        - Vintage Story

        opensource
        - luanti ( formerly known as minetest )

        So what i am saying is -> Maybe it’s not linux but your decission and or argumentation which is the issue.

        Imho: most of the things you say “don’t rock well” are just an issue of you choosing products or product combinations which probably aren’t value you as a user on linux ;) The people who value you as a user on linux are different.

        I think Minecraft on Linux has been a bad choice for a while now -> My guess Microsoft would have killed the Java Version for Years if they could. They keep it alive because of Modding but not because of Linux. That oppinion is supported by the shown bug …

          It’s less Minecraft and more that I don’t have the time to burn trying to make stuff work. I’m probably like 4/10 when it comes to computers and actually dicking with them so it can be quite frustrating to sit there and tweak and tweak until things work.

          At the moment the most I play is Civ VI and Foundry for TTRPGs. Been planning on getting a new computer and maybe then I’ll either swap my old one to Linux or the new one. We’ll see. But for now, I just sorta follow what’s going on and the Linux development, save some posts I’ll come back to later and get opinions.

            @deft

            i won’t try to change your mind. What i am saying is most of the people who get into the “burn time to make stuff work phase” want to force linux be exactly like windows.

            Here is a suggestion for a different mindset

            * Maybe switch from Minecraft to an Alternative or Lunati from the Distribution Repository -> i personally think that Hytale being a Flatpak should keep alot trouble away.

            * Foundry seems to have a native Linux client ( sorry i don’t have any idea how good it is )

            * So insead of CIV VI … you might maybe use CIV VII and Steam. Once you do, it’s likely you have a perfect experience ( platinum rating www.protondb.com )

            But maybe just changing to a Paradox Game with linux official Support like Europa Universalis IV might be the best choice.

            ( https://store.steampowered.com/app/236850/Europa/_Universalis/_IV/ << see the little linux icon )

            * So now it comes down to a Distribution. I won’t go into this war but the latest gaming drivers has never been ( on windows neither ) the most stable driver :)

            Showing Rating of Civ VI and Civ VII ... Civ VI is Gold and Civ VII is Platinum

    Doesn’t it use whatever the desktop is using? I assume this really means that if the desktop is using Wayland, it directly uses Wayland libraries instead of some x11 adapter?

    Does this mean that they have finally solved the mouse centrering issue, which means that you can actually play Minecraft on Wayland now? Woho!
