What annoys me about that name is that Onans sin wasn’t not reproducing (in and of itself) it was that he was rules-lawyering his way out of having to hand his dead brother’s property to his widow / Onan’s sister-in-law. The law of the time was that if a dude died and left a widow without an heir the brother would provide an heir that would legally count as his dead brother’s heir to take over the property and care for his mother as she aged. Onan figures he’s gonna pull an oopsie and if she “accidentally” doesn’t get pregnant he gets to just screw her out of the property. Honestly considering all the weird shit in that book (such as Abraham’s cuck fetish or Ezekiel’s interracial gangbang snuff porn), “don’t use the letter of the law to screw over vulnerable people” is actually one of the most poignant and meaningful lessons and I hate seeing it boiled down to “nonreproductive sex = bad.”
