I make sure to teach any kid under my supervision how to use dangerous tools and kitchen appliances. I remember how disappointed I was about never being permitted to help my dad with any DIY or my mom in the kitchen because ‘it was too dangerous’. So, on my watch kids are permitted to work with me on my projects, be that fixing stuff in the household or cooking food, and kids love nothing more than to help with real stuff using real tools. Of course, age appropriate - but challenging. I won’t let a toddler handle my chainsaw but I will give them a real handsaw or a real kitchen knife.
Oh and I teach them edible plants and mushrooms as well, they are usually more observant about details than grown-ups. In my experience, trusting children to be responsible and careful makes them more responsible and careful than assuming they will fuck up. Same goes for animals btw.
