Everyone is having the day the voted for.
Good.
Comrade Trump is doing a great job ending the American empire
We are close to the 1970s gas crisis days. People lining up for blocks and a flag system to tell you if they even have gas to sell. Is any of this necessary? Of course not.
What we didn’t have in the 1970s were viable alternatives to vehicles with combustion engine. Ok, the US is currently totally missing the transition but the rest of the world isn’t.
Detroit got caught with 8mpg tanks, Japan came in with small efficient hatchbacks.
Amsterdam put its transformation into another Detroit, just below sea level, to a sudden halt and reversed course 180° to the bike centric place it is today. Interestingly though Japan is lagging behind dramatically with EVs as well. They are stuck in early hybrid age, ie petrol light.
IIRC Japan was betting on hydrogen fuel cells when the move away from ICE started. That could explain why their EVs are behind the curve.
Not sure about Japan but Toyota sure was
Maybe, I think it is more about them having really put their eggs into the back then really innovative weak hybrid segment. BMW after all was also very much into hydrogen, and kept that ambition longer than many alive. Yet BMW has stayed pretty innovative and strong on EV R&D as well. I mean they have not expanded via that route but at least they kept their boat floating and I think the Neue Klasse is really exciting stuff.
I honestly don’t know much about the domestic Japanese car market but it appears to me that there is also very little meaningful regulatory push for EVs, also via subsidies. Of all the regions with a strong traditional car industry it is surprisingly Europe where car manufacturers are the furthest in the transition to EVs. In the US, Tesla aside, which was founded as purely electric car company, the big players are almost regressing back or at least stagnating.
My mom want to buy an hybrid when she never do more than 100km and can recharge at home 🤦 go electric !
I’ve had all 3 (ICE, Hybrid, EV) and by far the EV is the clear winner.
Even better would be reliable and frequent public transit running on its own infrastructure.
Unfortunately it’s not really a thing outside of big cities
I was in places in Sweden this summer where there was maybe one car every 15 or 20 minutes on the road. They have bus stops for public transportation.
No you aren’t going to build a metro to a farm hundreds of kilometers from a city… but you can still have public transportation if you value that.
You don’t even need any special EV for that. Even one of the new Renault Twingos for 20k EUR would do. If you want to pay less, get one of the 2nd hand EVs, as long as they are not too old, they’ll do it too.
Yeah she’s looking into 2nd hand but we have no ideas which ones are good 🤷
Clerk in the Orlando Mobil store: “Man, it’s weird that no one is taking advantage of our free diesel.”
Gas stations RUNNING out of Gas during a Government COMPLETELY AND FULLY CONTROLLED by Republicans is BIDENS fault!
-LITERALLY Republicans!
- Thanks Obama
Well yeah, but that’s tradition
Illegal immigrants and lazy Mexicans are the reason you didn’t get promoted to foreman, not the fact you routinely show up to the job site hungover or on drugs
Joke’s on you I dont even show up to work, damn immigrants stealing my job by actually working

The gas stations probably need to install new signs that will display four digits so they can charge over $10 per gallon
Nah. They’ll just do what the rest of the world does, and start charging per litre. Your 12.399/g is now only 3.109/L.
Lol… Would be quite funny if this is how US changes to metric system
Friend, I don’t think you understand just how much we hate the metric system. We’d stop driving before we measured fuel in liters.
It’s funny, because the U.S. uses the metric system for a lot of things. (Like soda or street drugs!)
But… yeah. For fuel, they’d probably start charging per quart before they tried charging per liter. It’s funny, because the U.S. uses the metric system for a lot of things. (Like soda or street drugs!)> Dollars and cents!
It’s also the actual basis for our non metric system. Since 1959.
International Yard and Pound
The temporary solution in 1980s Germany, when prices climbed over 1 DM/l, was to charge per 0.5 l. So they might charge per 0.5 gal now.
they might charge per 0.5 gal now.
Please, please, please. Per pottle. Of course.
Oh sorry. Of course. Please forgive my ignorance. I wasn’t aware of that.
But you will start selling in quarts.
Lol!! I use metric daily, and I’m 100% with you on this hahahaha
You just put a 1 to the left of the sign.
Surely you will never need any other numbers there.
Surely not. Nope, they’ll never need more than 3 digits…. Wait, what’s that?
I would have at least hoped they’d take the opportunity to get rid of the asinine 1/10¢, but apparently not!
Getting there for sure. $8.something a gallon for diesel around here.
It’s $7.50+ here in Eastern Washington. I drove to Idaho for the slightly better rate and still cost almost $200 to fill up my truck. I’m ever so thankful that I have kept it in good running condition and basically bulletproofed the 7.3l engine. I got 18.5 mpg and that’s really good. But still, I don’t think I can keep it up for long. It’s a damn shame.
Yet they are building a FUCKTON of gas stations in my town. I seriously think theres 1 every single block, sometimes 2. And building more more more more. Every single new fucKing building is a gas station. WHY. Destroying wetlands and deforesting and taking fields from farmers, for gas stations we won’t be able to use in 10 years. I want to scream but I don’t know who at.
Oh and we have record storms and flooding every year now. And drought. WONDER WHY.
You can scream at me, I guess. I probably deserve it. :(
Go on. Let me have it. I’ve had this coming for awhile.
Nah u good
Freight trains use diesel locomotives.
Everything is about to get a lot more expensive.
You’re not going to believe what transport trucks run on…
Masturbation and the broken dreams of 3rd world children? Seems sustainable to me.
Don’t forget methamphetamine!
Yup.
You know, I didn’t think my aunt and uncle were woke, but maybe they were actually accelerationists that voted for Trump to destroy American hegemony from the inside

Setting aside how shitty this all is for the global populace, it’s a hell of way to completely withdraw the US from the middle east (or whatever the preferred name for the region is currently). All US bases decimated, including 5th Fleet saying they are not getting back to their main base in Bahrain anytime soon.
It’s wasteful, deadly, and beyond stupid, but ending (maybe) US military presence in the region as the end product? That’s wild, and a welcome outcome. If only.
Some gas stations “out of diesel”
If Newsweek isn’t prepared to state they’ve independently confirmed some gas stations are out of diesel, they probably shouldn’t print this article at all. What a strange quote
RTFA
Individual stations can temporarily run short for a number of reasons, including high local demand or delays in fuel deliveries. GasBuddy’s nationwide data indicates that, at least for now, the incidents being shared online remain isolated. For now, there is an increasingly tight and expensive diesel market, but not a nationwide wave of gas stations running out of fuel.
Reminder that motorcycles get 50-150 mpg.
I saw someone watching tiktok while driving yesterday. People regularly don’t see me, and I’m in a bright fuckin yellow 5000lb tank. Only way I’m riding a motorcycle is if everyone else has to ride one too.
But can’t carry much. 4 people in a hybrid use far less fuel.
But can’t carry much
Skill issue. I’ve seen washing machine+dryer+refrigerator on the back of a 125cc quite a few times, and I’m comfortable riding at highway speeds with 2 checked-bag size suitcases in my side racks and a backpack and carry-on suitcase behind me.
4 people in a hybrid use far less fuel.
4 people on 1 bike uses less fuel than 4 people in a hybrid, its extremely common here in SEA.
But if most of your trips involve transporting 2 or more passengers, then bikes aren’t so attractive.
This is the kind of unhinged that sits right on the border between obviously a joke and “this guy might be exactly that crazy”
I’ve been meaning to get my class M and buy a EV bike, guess I’m scheduling classes today probably
My Kia Rio gets 43 mpg on average, and I’m feeling the pain on gas prices. Definitely gonna want to find a motorcycle closer to 150 than 50.
You’re probably looking at a 125cc that takes 20 seconds to get up to highway speeds.
I saw one out in Texas. If there’s no diesel in Texas, we’re gonna have a bad time
That reminds me, I need to change my oil. Fuck.
I did this on our gas suv about a month ago. 5L jug of oil was $58 CAD. 💀.
The week after I went and bought an EV. Works out to around $300 per month for a new SUV by the time you math the gas prices.
I just changed mine last week. I need better ramps, the ones I got from oriellys are shit.
i just plug my car into the outlet in the garage and charge from the solar panels on the roof.
no oil to change either.
I wish. I can’t afford an electric car, or a house for that matter
