It’s exaggerated in the show, but there is a “UN Mom” type that works for the UN, dresses like a peacock at a fabulousness contest and swears like a docker when the microphones arent around.

I had a few Professors who were connected to the UN like this, and Francesca Albanese is another example.

Season one was a masterclass in storytelling and animation, and a solid criticism of the systems that create and maintain “order” by oppressing others.

Season two was entertaining, but it walked back a lot of the ideas the first explored. It was jarringly inconsistent with the themes and development of the first. But it was pretty to look at and had good music.

This is the best summary and review of Arcane. I 100% agree here. At least watch season 1, it’s worth the watch and you really don’t need to know anything about the lore of Legaue of Legends to appreciate it on its own merits.

It’s so good. Stop reading what everyone else is saying and just watch.

It does, but it fits a lot into two seasons and would probably have benefitted from being 3.

Mostly its a lot of ‘twists’ in season 2 that aren’t actually twists if you already knew who the characters are, but definitely would have benefitted from just a bit more time to flesh them out.

Don’t let that dissuade you though, it’s still by far one of my favorite shows. The characters are all really interesting and compelling and it pulls on your heartstrings in a way very few shows manage to do (imo).

So whats the source material, i assumed it was a netflix cg original. If im thinking of the right show of course. I read light novels every day so im not opposed to going for the books over a show. I actually love watching something and then reading more since i can now easily put faces to names.

It was the same with the expanse, i started book 1 after my boss recommended it to me, then a couple days later he said there was a show so i immediately switched to that and then read the series.

My dream for the Trump family:

“Good. And please let him know that, if they can’t, I will rain Hellfire down on them all; I will freeze their assets, cancel their contracts, cripple their business. And I have the power to do it, because I am the fucking hero who helped save Mother Earth from the cataclysm that Jules-Pierre Mao unleashed. Tell his children the government is more powerful than any corporation, and the only reason they think it feels the other way is because we poor public servants are always looking for some fat private sector’s payoff down the road. And I’m not looking. And by the time they can pull the strings to force me out, it will be too late. Their family will be ruined. Their mother, their children, their children! All of them: pariahs! outlaws! Hunted and on the run for the rest of their days, until we find them, and nail each and every last one to the wall. Make sure you tell them that.”

I bet regardless of what political/religious/ethical philosophies you adhere to, I can find prominent people who represent that philosophy well, who swear.

You don’t think you listen to people who swear, but you do. You just may not have directly heard/seen them swear.

I just wantesd to hop in here and state that there are no bad words. Words have no inherent morality.

And out of respect I will not type it out, but the F word is one of the most versatile in the language.

I agree, and I personally swear all the time. But I grew up in a family and culture that believed swear words were morally wrong, and had to deconstruct that (among many other things) on my own, so when I see other people expressing beliefs that I used to believe, I like to try to engage with them :)

Ironically, those “with” and/or “from” money tend to be distrusting of it, and project their internally ever-present fear of weakness outward onto the world.

Every time they puff up and get loud, they’re just squashing their fears of being the inept, impotent, and unworthy cowards we already know them to be.

Diplomat is kind of understating it though.

          Minor spoiler

She is the scion of a political dynasty that is serving as “Under-Secretary-General” in the UN when we get to know her, so two steps away from the throne of Earth, having access to black ops and military assets, without ever having been elected.

Also towards your earlier point, I always took her brash attitude as intentionally annoying. Like that’s the whole point of it, narratively. It’s a tool she uses to unsettle others. Which is why it fits so nicely in the OP.

That’s pretty much on point according to the books. It’s her more natural speech to swear, but she does intentionally use swearing to unsettle her political opponents and try to glean some information from it.
