I found out a while back that one of their main contributors is absolutely unhinged but writes good code
Can you even do this sort of thing without slight levels of madness at least?
(no idea about their contributors, though)
Depends on the kind of madness.
I would just like to have an easy to follow installation guide rather than sending me off to different webpages where I have to figure out which of the 10 sections are relevant for the action asked in the installation guide.
Good to know I’m not the only one who finds that website very difficult to navigate. Thought I was missing something.
Great point
Libreboot is also anti-LLM! Grab the chance to run a slopfree BIOS/UEFI
Any difference between this and coreboot?
and what about GNUboot?
And oreboot?
Can we stop doing the year.month thing ? I hate it, semver is superior in all aspects.
Actually having major.minor.patch carries over information if the dev respects the spec…
Calver if you do release cycles, semver if you don’t. Plain and simple.
I strongly disagree :)
CalVer is 100% accurate, conveys information that’s highly related to what I want to know when I’m looking at a version number (how outdated is this information or software), and dictated by Pope Gregory the 13th.
SemVer is only as accurate as the release manager is clairvoyant, conveys 0 information with a single version number, and is dictated by the marketing department.
Then in the example you gave, the product isn’t following semver. If there is no major feature, there should be no major number bump.
I think we’re both against poor semver but we have different solutions.
There is no need for the RM to be clairvoyant, there are rules to semver :
- Major : New feature breaking existing configurations
- Minor : New feature that doesn’t break existing configs
- Patch : Security and bug fixes only
The reason why I hate CalVer is you can’t know if it’s safe to update or not and if you have to expect to spend time fixing possibly broken configs… Also you can’t gauge the activity of the project either. They could just as easily release stuff every 6 months and the project will feel just as active as another releasing features left and right…
I like both. Beauty of tags really. Sem ver is for professional releases. Year.month just to capture a projects point in time
Some projects only tag by date, no idea about LibreBoot, but it makes sense in some cases, hating it does not mean there isn’t any reason.
