Does the EU have any say in this? There’s no treaty where member countries gave up this kind of control to it and no agreed upon policy exists. What kind of rules are being broken with those new laws? Article doesn’t really specify.

My layman understanding is that the Digital Services Act is meant to completely harmonize platform regulation and establish that regulatory jurisdiction lies in the country where websites are hosted.

DSA seems very very unrelated - it was meant to rein in digital monopolies and make a level ground for competition. Seems like an overreach that will undermine trust in the EU because evidently there’s no consensus among countries.

The main goal of the DSA is to create a digital space that respects citizens and consumers’ fundamental rights. By establishing a clear set of rules across the EU, the DSA also enables smaller platforms, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups to scale up in Europe, fostering innovation, growth and competitiveness.

Facebook is not anyone’s fundamental right and definitely not kids.

The DSA says a lot of things and not all of them are about reining in digital monopolies. Some arguably are, but not all.
