So if the DPRK is truly a 1984 authoritarian state, why do people mock its citizens instead of, at the very least, showing them empathy and kindness?
Same reason people defend sanctions on North Korea; they don’t actually care, they’re just gleefully parroting state department propaganda.
The population of the enemy state are both oppressed slaves under the iron fist of the one-man dictatorship which they cannot speak against under threat of execution and evil freedom-hating hordes who must be destroyed.
This way, you can starve and oppress the people of the enemy nation as well as condemn their leadership on the grounds of starving and oppressing their people!! Wondrous!!
Because to the Westernized mind, they are inferior and incapable of self actualizing freedom for themselves, and must be saved by the Arsenal of Democracy.
