9·3 months agoHave some debatelord telling me the current Iran regime is worse than the shah, saying khomenei also tortured and killed as many people as the shah and and had purges in 1980 and 1988. Actually am not that familiar with these purges (i just knew briefly that they did that to leftists), but wondering how exaggerated they are since all we know about them come from outside iran.
Also seems like the death count of the shah is either 4k or according to khomenei 60-100k?

3·3 months agoI am talking more broadly. Like spending time together, going to an event, even just chatting. And Im referring to every type of relationship I have/had: friends, acquaintances, partners
I do think I in the past it was due to me not being the one to initiate ever, so I cant expect anyone to do it with me. But I feel i have made a good effort now and things still seem to be the same.

8·3 months agoI feel like in all my relationships, I am always the one that has to be the initiator, and until recently I was never comfortable with initiating. But the last couple years I have been more proactive. However, its getting to the point where Im getting really exhausted of having to always be the one to initiate and it gives me anxiety that if I dont initiate, then nothing happens and I just remain alone. It feels like a huge energy imbalance where I put so much in and get so little out of it

1·7 months agoKinda ironic that
administration wouldve probably been better for OpenAI cause they love bailing out big tech. Meanwhile Trump’s admin is high on their libertarian supply

1·7 months agoI think this goes to show why being covert and using divide and conquer strategies was so important for American imperialists. Trump is not covert and threatens too many countries at the same time where they become conscious of encroachment of imperialism and naturally come together in solidarity. Still the economic system of imperialism is in place, put in by the previous more competent imperialists, and that is the thing that the US still can leverage. I think it will be fading though as time goes on, but I hope the damage it does while that happens can be minimized

9·1 year agoThe media is complicit in letting fascism rise. They are downplaying it so that to the average person that doesn’t follow politics won’t think much about it.
I think to the average person, they think when fascism comes it will be obvious. They probably don’t realize that fascism in Germany and Italy arose from economic conditions not psychological ones so it’s not even a possibility in their mind. They also wouldn’t get that in Hitler’s time, people would defend him as well as they are doing Elon. There’s also maybe a bit of denialism because believing in the truth is just too horrifying for them.

5·1 year agoWhen I look at what Christianity teaches it almost feels like it was a designed religion with the purpose of creating a perfect ethical system (at least the New testament stuff) but in a totally idealist framework. And the whole perversion of it by the evangelicals just shows why you can’t build a “utopia” off of idealism

9·1 year agoI always liked Chomsky’s answer to this, which was something like “if the work is really that undesirable to everyone, then maybe we could distribute among the population to ease the overall discomfort from it”
That is assuming it’s not a job that requires years of specialized education or training to be competent at it

4·1 year agoYea I think the best we can hope for from “slop” is for it to funnel people into the leftist pipeline. If it’s not entertaining people won’t watch it, and I get that because sometimes you’re not in the mood to watch or read some theoretical work.
Right wing slop already serves this purpose, with the people who consume it not even aware it’s right wing

8·1 year agoThere are alot of posts dunking on libs (deservedly so) but I can’t help but think that its because the fascists have basically gotten everything they wanted and the liberals are just easy targets right now due to them not having a stable ideology.
Not trying to defend these people, but shitting on them doesn’t really make me feel any better about the situation. It just illustrates more the powerlessness of the left and the strength of the right.

23·1 year agoHistory isn’t predetermined, but I’ve been reading about the history of fascism and I imagine it will be somewhat similar to what happened in Germany in the 1930s.
We’ll see more inflation, workers rights repealed, the proletarianization of the “middle class” especially those not unionized. Government will probably intervene when some companies start collapsing, but it will never nationalize these companies ensuring that the profits are always private. There will also be need of a scapegoat for all these crises so lots of violence against the poor and minorities unfortunately

29·1 year agoJust seeing posts of people showing off Chinese city infrastructure is making me want to move to China. There was even a video going through a poor neighborhood and it looked better than some rich neighbordhoods I’ve seen in the US
How about Khomenei’s claim of 60-100k people killed by the shah? Ive also heard the 100k number being thrown around. Is it just an exaggeration?
