lmao Biden made sure one of the last events of his presidency was banning the most popular social media site in the country, leaving it to be unbanned by Trump days later.

Democrats really don’t want to win.

Apparently in one of his recent videos, he argued we need to rethink the whole “anyone from anywhere being able to talk to anyone else” aspect of technology, on accounta scary-wary foreign disinformation

Funny because Trump brought it up before Biden was in office. “Man praised for putting out fire after starting said fire.” Lucky for him it seems TikTok users have memories as short as their media.

      Edit: wording

Trump didn’t start that fire. He said “maybe we should start a fire”, then didn’t. Democrats later decided to actually start a fire. Democrats poured the fuel and Biden lit the match.

  • Absolutely hilarious play by TikTok and probably the most easily avoidable PR disaster for the Democrats in decades. I laughed so fucking hard when I saw this, I can only imagine the panicked phone calls that are happening right now.

At this point I believe the democrats are deliberately trying to boost Trump’s approval rating.

Why? So they justify their own right wing turn? They want to work across the aisle? Idk pick whatever reason you want.

I guess normalizing Trump does ward off any revolutionary potential in the population, so maybe it’s not so farfetched.

I want to say American’s will forget quickly, but an app being banned by the government is unprecedented in the US so who knows

I can see how if I had any inkling that the democrats were “good guys”, this would upset me, but its honestly really funny seeing the most obvious own-goal in history happen over a really long period of time where any one of them could have noticed what was happening and course corrected.

    https://www.wired.com/story/how-to-get-around-the-us-tiktok-ban/

The company said in the days before the law took effect that it planned to make the app inaccessible to US users—a level of cooperation and accommodation that the outgoing Biden White House called a “stunt” on Saturday afternoon. Even if TikTok itself had obligations under the law, the Biden White House had signaled that it did not plan to enforce the ban before Trump took office on Monday.

    lmao

    also, VPNs won’t wok either

How is it a stunt when the law Biden signed is literally

As of January 19, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act will make it unlawful for companies in the United States to provide services to distribute, maintain, or update the social media platform TikTok

      powell-propaganda

like what did he think would happen on his last day in office when you’re banning a treat?

the law was enacted but not enforced yet, but they decided to enforce it upon themselves, before they legally had to. last week biden said he’d leave the fate of the enforcement in trump’s hands, in an attempt to save face i guess

stroking trump’s savior complex like this will probably double the chances of him actually following through tbh. smart move from tiktok

      Biden White House had signaled

What, like a light in the sky? I love the implication that they should have broken this law because porky slightly hinted they wouldn’t get upset about it

the statement from a couple days ago:

“TikTok should remain available to Americans, but simply under American ownership or other ownership that addresses the national security concerns identified by Congress in developing this law,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a written statement.

“Given the sheer fact of timing, this Administration recognizes that actions to implement the law simply must fall to the next Administration, which takes office on Monday.”

another WH correspondent also said the ban would at first be “symbolic and have no effect”

I’m honestly curious what will happen. if he ignores the supreme court hell could break loose. but it could also be really hilarious to see the ensuing chaos. just an average evening in burgerland.
