As an American-born white male, I’m staying. If all the sane people flee the country, what does that leave behind? A bunch of right wing whack jobs with the biggest military in the world. You think our domestic problems are going to stay domestic? If we don’t stay and stand up to this, it’s going to spread worldwide anyway.

I don’t really worry about abandonment at all. If anything, I’d be more worried about the opposite. People like me, and want to hang out with me, and I do not have the time, energy, or desire to hang out with most people. I’ve had more than my fair share of clingy, dependent “friends”, and I’m not a fan. Hyper-independent aloofness has definitely spared me many additions to that unfortunate list.

I don’t disagree that it’s a trauma response, but not always to abandonment (I wish), but often necessity. When you have to do everything, you learn how to do everything, and eventually there’s not much left to rely on other people for.

I did it, I went from socially awkward to people not believing me when I tell them I’m an introvert; “But you’re so sociable and charismatic!”. Gonna be honest, still don’t really want to talk to people. Like sure, I like having discussions and hashing ideas out with an external perspective, and I’m glad I developed the skill. But I don’t want to just, talk to people. It’s generally exhausting.

I’d argue that just using the free plastic bags and taking them to a single stream recycler (several grocery stores have collection bins) is a better idea than buying a new reusable bag every time you forget yours at home.

Obviously the best thing you can do is have just enough reusable bags for your shopping needs and use them every time, but that doesn’t erase the impact of reusable bags.

I know what it says, but “authoritarian communist” is an oxymoron, like “carnivorous vegan”. They may call themselves communists, they may be members of a party that calls itself “communist”, but authoritarianism cannot coexist with a stateless, classless, moneyless society.

I don’t try to put my pinky all the way down, the difference between a 1 and 0 on that finger is about 90°, though it rolls a bit depending on the other fingers. As long as you can tell the difference between up and down, you don’t have to be that strict about the exact positioning
