From the creators of Frozen comes: Frozen 1.5
Looks alright but very much in line with Disney’s recent movies.
The story of a woman who tries to find something, ANYTHING worth buying from a discount Chinese mail order company.
Between this stuff and marvel content, Disney is pretty set on taking no risks. Hopefully this opens up space for smaller studios to make new and better things
You know what I think would be cool? If Pixar was the taking-risks-branch, while Disney proper released low-risk content based on their main IPs like Mickey, Star Wars, etc. But Disney seems set on making “new” IPs/universes which are half-baked copies of past successes (looking at you, Elemental)
That’s roughly how Dreamworks came up. The core team working on The Prince of Egypt sent their scrubs and/or co-workers being punished to work on Shrek
That’s why literally everything about Shrek is dunking on Disney
I enjoyed elemental as a piece about first generation immigrants. Also found it refreshing that Disney allowed it to be a love story, and that drove the plot. But yes, the scene where they all get to element city or whatever was a total retread of zootopia
Not so different from the Michael Eisner era of the late 90’s to early aughts where everything got multiple direct to video sequels.
I give it four yawns out of a firm stretch, followed by a nap and being awoken by the usher.
Alan Tudyk as the Animal Companion. Yup not treading any new ground here.
Disney can piss away their money, but Wash is the man.
Maybe I just can’t see it on my phone screen, but didn’t they have a different art style in the teasers? Like a more paper-y look?
It’s fairly subtle on my monitor, but I can definitely see some cell-shading, almost resembled Don Bluth rotoscoping.
Gotta admit, it felt like a half measure, and I didn’t love what little I saw. Looked more like saving money than innovating. Willing to be convinced otherwise though.
Disney is giving us more of the same…
Basing this solely on the trailer, the King is not wrong. Not everyone’s wishes should be granted. As the ruler / government of the country, choosing the wishes that have the best impact on the well-being of the kingdom is kind of his job. Catching the person who is granting wishes randomly, or just all wishes is a reasonable course of action for the King. Of course, he’s probably a baby-eater or something equally villainous to make the audience hate him.

Stupid question, are these Disney movies still good? It feels like there’s just so many every year now, I can’t keep up with new releases and the quantity makes me question the quality.
The last few have been ok at best, you aren’t missing that much.
Milking that IP like they’re Mattel with a Barbie home video franchise.
Genuinely upset when they gave the goat a voice. He was so cute…
It’s Alan Tudyk. He only makes things better
It’s the star from Mario Galaxy!
