UK version was so much more grounded, recommend it if you can find it.

Edit: hang on hells kitchen is the competition one. I’m thinking of Kitchen Nightmares

Same. Even though I catch myself falling for it sometimes.

It sucks living in a country that lives off knee jerk reactions 😮‍💨

I can’t be in the room when my wife watches “reality” TV because I point out every time they make it obviously staged.

My favorite was when one show presented a couple who had just gotten together in person and the SAME WEEK someone “gets pregnant” and shows pregnancy tests. I pointed out there isn’t any possible way to know after one week, she started to argue about how “some people just know” then stopped because there was still a positive pregnancy test on screen in her hand.

In quite a few shots you can see a clear, fresh line where a wedding ring would normally sit if they hadn’t taken it off for filming.

My all time favorite is miraculously tucking and untucking shirts. They’re so obvious, but easy to miss.

I so much prefer the UK version because he jokes around with people and talks to them like a normal person. On the US version it is all for drama and they are obsessed with people yelling and acting out.

Cut to Gordon lugging five huge trays of ice cream into the street and slamming it down in front of the assembled employees [muffled gasps]

My recent hobby is making nice looking ice cubes. My SO doesn’t appreciate at all how nice my energy drink + vodka looks now.

Yeah crazy how the guy that ridiculed frozen meal consumers for being too lazy to cook now puts his name on a Walmart exclusive frozen lasagna.

Unpopular opinion: promoting scumbags, even as part of memes, actually makes them more accepted in society which proliferates the issue of terrible bosses because it seems like a viable role model.

If you can’t behave like a normal human being, then please find therapist and don’t make everyone’s day worse. Anger control works and does wonders for everyone involved.

He plays it up for the show. He’s not actually like that.

Watch any of his non “hell’s kitchen/nightmares” shows and he’s quite sensible.

And even in kitchen nightmares, he goes to really big lengths to actually help these people get back on track. Sometimes, they don’t realize how bad things are or get stubborn and need a kick in the pants to change.

His travel thing was quite chill too. It was him going to different parts of the world, getting shown local delicacies and sourcing local produce, and having a cook-off with a local chef for local groups. It’s mostly him chatting with fishermen, hunters, farmers, mushroom gatherers etc and it’s quite charming.

Have you watched the British version Kitchen Nightmares? Ramsay is very pleasant and patient in it.

Part of it is the US version really plays up his reputation by using editing techniques to drum up the drama for viewership, part of it is that if you watch the show occasionally, some of the restaurants he tries to save in the US are genuinely disgusting and should have been shut down as health hazards.

I was rewatching some of the earlier seasons and it’s extra obvious he also intentionally pokes at them to get them to lash out before having the heart to heart moment to help them. It’s fun/sad watching the episodes and then checking that one website to see what ended up happening with the restaurant.

Nah, dude is actually very nasty in his early day, taking from his master’s nastiness. Marco Pierre White once verbally abused Gordon so much to make him cry, but once both person grow old the nastiness slowly leave them, so the Gordon and Marco of now is actually a bit more pleasant, yet the legacy they and a lot of other chefs left for the industry is an abusive one.

It’s only Ramsey’s American shows that are like this. Says more about America than it does Ramsay. He’s not a scumbag.
