I have a technical interview tomorrow morning for a job after 18 months and I feel like I’m going to fail. I have no idea why though because I’ve been damn good at my jobs for 20 years. I just have a 6 month old that I watch 5 days a week, work a fast food job the other 2 days, a spouse that is recovering from cancer, a disease that the chemo had on him, and now an appendicitis. I NEED a job, I am running through money faster than I can make it. I’m worried that all of these pressures put more stress on me which translates somehow to my interviews.

Coming in a bit late, sadly, but my response will be musical.

    Fighter by Infected Rain

    Key lyric:

You got this, you're a winner
    A fight machine, a killer!

Also by Infected Rain is The Answer is You

    Key lyric:

You have the power to switch the game
To make a difference and break the chains (Break, break)
You can be the change you want to see
    Awareness will set you free
The answer is you, you have it all, the answer is you

I hope that this helps to stiffen your spine for your upcoming trials. I find the rage of compassion hidden behind Lena’s harsh vocals pretty inspiring myself.

That’s a lot to deal with. Cancer is devastating, even when it doesn’t kill it causes so much pain. You’re working, and you have a young child to look after which is hard enough. On top of that, you’ve got financial issues to deal with. It’s no wonder you’re distressed anybody would be, and you’re doing amazing.

With all this pressure it’s no surprise that you’re stressed about the interview. Your cup is already full, you need this, and there’s a lot at stake. Your brain is understandably ringing alarms for you and telling you things about yourself that aren’t true. I believe in you 100% you said yourself you can do your job. You’ve got this, and no matter how it goes you’ve got a load of supporters here the other side. Let us know how it goes we’re all cheering you on

I’ve had to deal with this a few times in my career, though not under the harsh circumstances you’re currently under.

life challenges us, but never in the ways we have planned for. one of my favorite captains said this about these challenges.

It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not weakness, that is life.

the burden of failure weighs heavy only when we accept the outcome and refuse to try again.

my personally used advice; take a deep breath, keep your head straight. panic will not help you. focus on the task at hand and prioritize your best chance to success.

the fact that you are here, in this moment in time, coherent enough to understand the pressures you’re under only means that you’re capable and strong enough to get through the storm. your journey continues on.

    you got this.

You’ve got this. I wish I had good advice or something to offer but I’ll drop this This has helped like one person ever besides me and I recognize it’s a little ridiculous but I play pretend with myself that it already happened and I’m replaying it. The outcome is predetermined. I’m just going through the motions and doing my best for practice. Makes me feel less pressure and more at ease for things I can’t realistically prepare for more.

If you don’t mind some perspective as a technical interviewer…blab. Talk through your technical thoughts, talk through your process. Lean into nervous babbling if you can, and occasionally take a break to summarize.

    You can do it 😀

Thats a lot. I cross fingers for you.

If possible for you in this Situation, try not to think about you needing the job but Them needing you. Otherwise they wouldnt look for someone. And with your experience of 20years you might be just perfect. They are desperateley looking for a New employee and you are the one who could help them out.
