if you look into advice on talking to others, often you’ll find something along the lines of asking them about themselves or their interests, that people like to talk about either of those.

i’m not interested in talking about myself, despite the following, nothing tragic or anything to be ashamed of…i’m just with me enough as-is.

i don’t think my interests are general, or particular enough, to be much to discuss either.

however, i can carry a conversation pretty well with anyone that’s not like me. i like exploring others’ interests and views, and amusingly enough if it all pans out, they’ll miss or forget that i haven’t shared all that much to do with myself, at least in the moment.

but i think that’s been catching up to me lately, and as much as i know what i could do, i don’t feel like it.

there’s nothing about me or my interests that can’t be readily found in some combination across the many, many other people around. it’s redundant to share, much like this.

tiresome too.

Don’t take others the same experience. Just talk. Say something. I’m already filling up an entire paragraph without really saying something interesting, but you maybe do get an idea of what kind of person I am. Or could be.

And of course human traits, hobbies, interests, etc. are never unique. And still everyone is different. You are as valid as everyone else.

No need to run and hide.

I think I know what you’re trying to say here, but to be sure, did you miss a word?

Appreciate the reply, and to be clear, it’s not really a fear response, I think, just…I don’t typically have anything I want to add from myself, unprompted. This whole post was born more of some frustration and exhaustion at a sense of social expectation that one will naturally(?) want to share about themselves.

        *don’t take away

Sorry, English isn’t my native language

I don’t think people expect you to brag, but also you don’t have to isolate yourself. Maybe there is just one or more persons around who keep you from developing more self-confidence?

Not sure if what I’m saying is going into the right direction, I was thinking about what you said here:

but i think that’s been catching up to me lately, and as much as i know what i could do, i don’t feel like it.

And you were looking into advice how to talk to others, so you are looking for change

You don’t need to reveal much about yourself to strangers who you want to stay strangers with, but if you want any type of closer relationship, at some point there has to be a give and take.

I mean if someone about myself or my interests can be a bit vague or non comittal but if they happen to mention certain sci fi, or fantasy, or rpg things I more than likely will get excited and want to gush about it.
