*title is sarcastic, I’m not in total doom mode yet. But every time I see something about hantavirus it feels like it’s January 2020 all over again. I keep seeing people say we “learned the lessons of Covid” then see us in reality doubling down on our failures and somehow doing things even worse than the first time around. If this doesn’t become a pandemic it will be by the grace of god and sure as hell not because of anything we’ve done.
Edit: article is old. Someone tested positive so now the usa is doing a mandatory 72 hour quarantine. So still not taking things seriously
Already seeing the facebook memes on how public health is brutal tyranny and it is our right to choose to spread a disease. Muh freedumz!
How can a culture be so staunchly conservative yet so atomized. Want your “rugged individualism?” you live your way your way, and I’ll live mine my way. Want to conserve tradition? First start with not seeing your neighbors as competition.
‘conservative’ is a misnomer. They are reactionary extremists and fascists. They want an extreme heightening of oppression and change to the system to make it more predatory and subservient to capital.
I’ve already seen a few “uh yeah I’ll skip the mask, I’m a healthy adult with a healthy immune system” comments. Yeah good luck with that healthy immune system when it meets a 40% fatality rate
Edit: case in point

I’ll skip the mask, i’ll just crawl right into my coffin like is my goddamned right
But on the other hand, can you honestly trust any medical advice being proposed by this administration?
This administration is extremely hostile to any pandemic precaution. A number of people in the cdc were authors of the great barrington declaration
So much could be a avoided if people just adopted the habit of wearing a respirator when they feel a cold coming on. Or even, I dunno, have health authorities encourage it in serious outbreaks like this?
