With election denialists installed in key positions, officials using series of measures to change voting rules

The Trump administration is waging war on voting rights using justice department lawsuits, FBI investigations, and an executive order to limit voting by mail, moves mirroring the US president’s false claims he lost the 2020 election due to voting fraud, say election experts and ex-officials.

Since Donald Trump began his second term, numerous 2020 election denialists have been installed in key agencies such as the DoJ, the FBI and elsewhere to pursue widely discredited claims of fraud, which can intimidate election workers and voters in swing states that Trump lost to Joe Biden in 2020.

The justice department has also filed lawsuits seeking sensitive voter data from 30 states – even though, by law, states control elections – and the FBI has launched investigations into debunked allegations of voting fraud in Georgia, Wisconsin and a few other swing states that Trump lost in 2020.

Wait, you mean the guy who didn’t peacefully leave office the last time and said he was going to be a dictator on day 1? Nah, I’m sure history won’t repeat itself

If the media tells people it’s setting off alarms the the public can keep pretending that the fascism isn’t there yet. Nothing more valuable to the majority of the US than personal convenience and comfort.

I’m shocked he won’t play fair. Who could’ve seen this coming? I hope all the people who refused to do anything so far and insisted the midterms would save them wake up before it’s too late.

Another pathetic whiner with no better plan who thinks he’s edgy.

If you don’t think the Midterms are going to blow a whole in the government, one way or another, you don’t know what you are talking about. There is no plan beyond the Midterms, because the outcome of that race will determine the next steps for both sides, but the Dems are poised to come out of it in a position of strength.

And MAGA is likely to come out of it greatly weakened, and instead of surrendering, they will get nastier, and we need to prepare for that, and play full court offense for the following two years.

This isn’t over, by a long ways.

Protest, strike, boycott, obstruct, organize, disrupt.

The first step is to stop making excuses to wait for someone else to do something.

If you won’t fight for your own freedom you won’t have it long.

We’re doing that already. A government that gives no shits about the will of the people doesn’t seem to be swayed by said people getting spun up about it. Organizing in order to push back for one last attempt at working within the system is the current step those of us who care are on.

Are you suggesting the solution now is to have the handful of us who give enough of a shit just start shooting? Not sure you’ve thought that through.

            I’ll suggest it for them.

Yes I have thought it through, and the resulting conclusion is that there is nothing to lose. We either get the fascist hellscape they want, or we don’t. Either we do nothing (or continue as we are) and they steal the election and we protest some more, they kidnap a few specific people and solidify their grip as best they can while we all literally starve through the food crisis they are creating with the oil shortage right before a super el nino destroys the crops for this year worldwide.

Or we shoot a bunch of people, a bunch of us get shot, and maybe a strongman co-ops the revolution and we are back at square one.

OR we just win the revolution.

Those are the outcomes that I see as possible. I prefer the one where the bad people end up dead and dying in as much agony as possible, because they have ensured that millions will have that fate already.

I didn’t even remotely suggest that. I suggested what I said. Don’t put words in my mouth. That’s a strawman.

All good, not trying to misconstrue your words. I made the assumption based in context and tone. Could you please define “fight for your own freedom” beyond what is already happening then?

Americans need to organize and convince more people to stand up for their rights and fight back. The protests happening now are a good start but won’t change anything, as you already said. Most Americans are content to make excuses and sit around while fascism takes over the country and by the time they realize the problem it’ll be too late. Most Americans think the next step after protests and strikes is to start shooting, which is the first thing you jumped to too. It’s not. The next step is to ramp up the resistance until the media and the fascists can’t ignore it anymore.

This is why I always laugh at people that keep saying “Get out and vote”. Its clear this fucker is not going to let the democratic process function as normal if it results in him losing power. You cannot use a broken system to fix itself. Revolution is the only way forward, people just need to stop lying to themselves about it.

“If conservatives become convinced that they can not win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will abandon democracy.”
