A Google spokesperson said the judgement “fails to recognise” the firm’s “significant investment to ensure Android remains open, interoperable and free”.
Except for all the anti-consumer initiatives in the name of security .
Yeah, I guess https://keepandroidopen.org/ exists just because, uh… well…
Fuck you, Google. Fuck you very much.
I love being protected from myself against my will.
“You failed to recognise our entirely self-serving investment in open source loss leaders, architected to dominate digital markets and funnel users into all of our own services”
No, the judge did recognize that
If the only penalty is a fine …
€4.1 billion is just a small cost of doing business. Their operating income for last year was $129 billion.
It is better than the usual $50 million fines they have to pay in the US, and Google is incredibly strapped for cash right now which is why they are selling stock. So it’s something that they will at least feel this time.
What needs to happen is that they need to be broken up entirely and the different divisions spun off into their own companies.
We can only dream that Google is split up anytime soon.
Next have a look at what they are currently doing to lock down their OS and prevent development for open markets and operating systems
Is this actually being enforced or will this get dog walked back to something small like a mil or some shit
