Hot Fuzz
The greater good!
The greater good!
Shut it!
Crusty jugglers!
GOOSE!!!
When Sgt Angle outlines his theory that the killings are a conspiracy to build a rival supermarket on land where a highway bypass is to be built, only for the actual reason being that the people had an annoying laugh or their house was ugly was so brilliant. Love that movie.
Over the Hedge
Of course.
Wasn’t sure if you meant that or “Over the Edge” from 1979. Can’t remember if HOA specifically was the Bad Guy, but it was kids vs The Man.
Oh no, I meant over the hedge. The movie about a racoon and turtle trying to survive in suburbia
There is an episode of the X files where the monster is summoned by the HOA.
My favorite episode in the series.
“It’s not a swimming pool, it’s a reflecting pool. Going to be very serine. Nothing in the bylaws against it.”
This was a great episode.

I need to do an xfiles rewatch again!
That one hit different after becoming a homeowner
The village (2004)
Maybe Poltergeist? The HOA just moved the gravestones, not the bodies. Hence the whole haunting thing going on.
That wasn’t an HOA, it was a real estate development company
Ah shoot that’s right. Been a hot mintue since I watched it.
yeah, the whole conversation about moving the cemetery where they’re overlooking the neighborhood was the dad talking to his boss. his boss is complimenting him on being the top house salesman, and how, and a big bonus, he’s gonna give him a new house once the new neighborhood extension is completed in a few years.
and the dad’s all like, “but where are you gonna build it?” and the boss guy is like, “oh, ya know, the cemetery. we’re gonna move it.” and the dad is like, “won’t that piss people off?” and the boss dude is like, “we’ve done it before with your neighborhood.” and the dad’s like, “uhh… huh…”
that’s why you see coffins popping up in the half-dug up pool in the back yard near the end of the film. that’s also why, at the end of the movie, when the family runs out of the house, right before it implodes with ghostliness, and the boss guy drives up and comes up to the dad all WTF, the dad grabs the boss and screams at him, “YOU ONLY MOVED THE HEADSTONES! YOU LEFT THE GAVES DIDN’T YOU‽ YOU ONLY MOVED THE HEADSTONES!!!”
which means the dad is pretty much the only one who figures out why any of that crazy shit actually happened.
edit: ok, time for a rewatch. that movie is sooo good
It is good! I accidentally watched it on TV as a kid and was terrifed to watch it again until I was nearly thirty. Amazimg cinematography and made me sleep with the lights on as a child.
I had a similar experience. It’s responsible for why I hate clowns.
I would say The Matrix, but I guess that’s more of landlord situation?
EXCUSE ME human, your pod in block 5S-AA67 is 4 centimeters farther out from the frame than the rest of the pods, we need you to be within HOA regulation of the proper distance of your pod or face additional fees!
It’s technically a Men’s Association, but: The Stepford Wives
I watch movies to escape reality
Only Murders in the Building features the HOA. It’s a TV show, and also I haven’t finished it yet, so it doesn’t quite fit your question. But it’s also a good show.
spoiler alert for new show
The new ‘The Burbs’ series on Peacock.
Not exactly the prompt, but “Chuck” Season 2 Episode 13: “Chuck Versus the Suburbs.”
La Comunidad
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0255067/It’s not an HOA situation, but in Midnight Madness, the landlady is a bit of an asshole. Although, none of the other characters are exactly angels either, so there’s no traditional heroes here when everyone is an asshole in this movie…
