Gave me the idea to do a FOIA on all flock hits on the mayors car. Simple enough to create a image showing where he goes, how long he stays, patterns, stores he visits, where he eats, his Bluetooth devices,WiFi devices, maybe some MAC addresses.
See how he feels about that being perfectly legal.
A matter of time before they’ll claim national security and refuse the info.
Maybe we should do it. A lot of conservative types have shit empathy and only really understand things when it’s happening to them.
This is objectively true:
Ideological values are parametrically associated with empathy neural response to vicarious suffering 2023, PubMed
Maybe we should stop trying to convince them and start showing them.
Conservative ideology and radicalization generally also tends to be built out of a persecution complex, so I’m not sure if that will have the intended result.
Whether it’d be just and appropriate or not though, is another story
Conservative ideology and radicalization generally also tends to be built out of a persecution complex, so I’m not sure if that will have the intended result.
They already believe, and behave, as if they’re being persecuted, even when they’re not. We’re already seeing the results of their mental illness. Might as well actually help the rest of society by making them see what it actually looks like.
We don’t even need to build our own system. Flock data is owned by the government, and thus available for the public to request via FOIA
We own the data, let’s get requests for it
Except these cameras are likely excluded from areas that lawmakers exist in. It would be dystopian to expect elected officials to live under surveillance Of their every move! /s
I live a couple blocks from my state governor and there are plenty of Flock cams here. I’m sure the private gated suburbs might not have them inside, but they will be on the roads connecting between them, so FOIA is actually a great idea.
Surely they have their own cameras on the inside, Ring doorbell cams etc.
The article mentioned that citizens can opt their privately-owned cameras into the system. Now I’m curious - in places with that kind of system what is the rate of opt-ins among those with power vs. the general population.
Where I live there is a bridge that is the only way out of the city on the North and East. I can guarantee elected officials are using it too
It has a Flock camera on either side. Also the main road along the river has 3 cameras covering a 360 degree view
The cameras here are set to maximize the number of people tracked
Aren’t those things solar powered? Just move them.
Flock data is owned by the government? That’s kinda crazy. I assumed they just paid for access. Something doesn’t sound right.
Also a lot of conservatives- especially conservative politicians- maybe need the ah, “oversight”.
We should just start putting up our own cameras right next to theirs that they can’t access. I mean, it’s basically what they are already doing to us so I feel like it’s totally fair.
Isn’t Flock already doing all this stuff to the city council, along with everyone else? Didn’t the city council vote for this already?
We’ve only got Petrosky’s word that the council-people were concerned by this at all.
I’m inclined to believe him about their reaction. Pretty easy to imagine a small town council having either a lack of perspective or complete ignorance when approving it.
it shouldnt have been satire.
You can hack flock cameras really easy, why don’t we all do this?
Can you point to resources on this?
…you know…so I know which sites to avoid going to and all.
I’m just a random individual on the internet with no specialties and you should absolutely never take my advice. Especially when its unrelated to the post above.

One should never use a script to automatically spoof the MAC of their WiFi dongle or phone’s WiFi/Bluetooth hardware.
One should never leave their house unlocked while leaving for work as raccoons might break in and cause havok in your kitchen.
Never ever flash the wrong firmware to your router, it’ll become a brick.
If you ever need to learn how to repair your car I hear shop manuals will teach you the ins and outs of your car, and they are easily obtained online in pdf format, from the manufacturer.
I’ve also heard that sometimes radios will take over stations in a nearby car if the signal is strong enough.

Oh yes I too would like to add this to my blocklist, for sure.
Man wanting more privacy ends up under the Internet microscope.
I really really hope his presentation sinks in for ALL elected officials.
Livestream every moment of their lives Truman Show style. It’s what they deserve.
Terrorist
You mean Flock? Yeah, pretty much. They use fear to achieve political goals.
You have to be more specific. What he said was “woke” which makes him a “terrorist” for “antifa”, and accordingly he is being funded by “Chinese Communists”.
Why do you hate free speech now?
I guess the explicit sarcasm tag is nessesary
Yeah, there be trolls about.
absolutely, it’s never too late to edit

Lmao, is this ANOTHER admiral fash alt? Bruh, check yourself in for a mental health eval. Lemmy is not this big of a deal.
Not sure what I stepped in here…
I think you are falsely being accused of being an alt account of one of the admins of your Lemmy site.
As far as I can tell, your posting habit or style haven’t changed in any way since certain events related to that admin.
Who?
