Linus seems to be handling it the same way that Tim Peters is. They’re both older guys who are very talented and have large projects that they have been major core contributors to (Linux and Python), but they both kinda see AI as nothing more than a tool because that’s all they’ve really interacted with it as.
I think Guido is kinda in the same boat, but he’s still yucking it up at Microsoft and doesn’t really say much so who knows.
If you want more context, go read through some of the posts and comments from the greybeards on discuss.python.org it’s full of AI agnosticism from them and a mix of hyper anti AI sentiment from the younger folks and AI overuse from the really young folks.

But, for starters, I see AI and Nukes in the same way: the object isn’t political per si. But certainly their use is political. So a hands-off stance is just siding with the hegemon.
I’m staunchly in the AI very bad camp lol. Just pointing out that it’s more just that generation of programmers that has that sort of intrigued apathy for them.
