One of Doerkson’s first public statements after becoming interim leader of the BC Conservatives was to declare his intention to repeal B.C.’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, or DRIPA.

So white supremacy and land greed are their driving principles then.

This is so sad. The old growth forests in the PNW are some of the most efficient carbon capturing forests on earth. Combined with Brazil going to a far right government and it’s looking bleak as hell. I think these are the final nails in the coffin of our species.

Why couldn’t more people switch from ndp to grn instead of con, what fumble on disillusioned voters.

If you look at the actual voter turnout, it doesn’t look so much like people switched as it looks like NDP voters just stayed home. Conservatives got something like 40k fewer votes than last election and the NDP got something like 270k fewer votes.

Yeah, I wish I understood this. I voted Green. Emily Lowan was the only candidate worthy of the vote and in touch with voters, IMHO.

What horrible news. My wife and I were planning to flee to BC from the states if November went poorly. Currently live west coast.

This likely shouldn’t change your plans. The Conservatives here are not great, but they aren’t nearly as bad as republicans most of the time.

It will also likely only be 4 years. They are likely to shit the bed and get voted out.

The one saving grace is that the BCCons spent two years fighting over each other that they haven’t sat down and made (or had written for them by wealthy interests) an evil policy document like Project 2025, which had we seen this result in 2028 they’d have more time to prepare. We can still protest and push back against many of their developing ideas for governance.

I am bracing for destructive policies but we’re going to have to move forward and do what we can to limit the worst damage.

Conservatives are an existential threat to all life on earth. There has never been a peaceful solution to an infestation of conservatism. It must be dealt with harshly.

Except when it’s conservatives from “minority communities”. NDP, Greens and Liberals treat them like royalty and the sole, rightful representatives of all “minorities”.

Remember that time when Left decided everyone in the country should be forced to hear Adhan so everyone knows when it’s time to pray to One True God?

Or that time when they decided which religious headgear is a valid replacement for motorcycle helmets in various provinces?

This is the most terminally-online, red-pilled take I see far too often. You are conflating online opinions with reality. There are absolutely people online that want to tear down capitalism, entirely move to renewable energy, and whatever other ‘evils’ you can think of. But if you look at what the elected parties employ, it’s the most white bread bland shit ever. There are almost no meaningfully progressive policies getting through and if they do it is watered down to the point that it obviously won’t do anything anyway.

Anti-progressive policies are why housing is an investment instead of a right. If true progressives were voted into power then landlords would be taxed out of existence and housing would be affordable for everyone again.

Instead centralists want to make it easier for people to get on the “ladder” and then continue to let the prices frow infinitely, kickin the can down the road until someone realizes basic community functions can’t escalate in price infinitely without doing more harm. Conservatives want something even worse, they want to protect commercial investors such that rent grows higher every year and renters have less rights.

            true progressives

            What’s Olivia Chow? Chopped liver?

If Jagmeet wasn’t a true progressive, why did NDP keep doubling down instead of kicking him out?

Do you know who destroyed the Ontario liberal party? A true progressive, psychotic ideologue.

Leftists’ appeal to purity and ever shifting goalposts aren’t palatable anymore.

You know what else causes harm? Flooding the country with more people from elsewhere when the citizens can’t afford housing and food after paying exuberant taxes all their lives.

I think “progressives” have caused enough harm already. The majority of this country does not want your “utopia”.

The reality is progressive policies lead to better societal outcomes, one of which is housing being more efficient (either cheaper for the same quality, or higher quality for the same price).

So if your politicians haven’t enacted policies to accomplish those things then they aren’t progressives no matter what they say or what the media is telling you. Immigrants are not the reason Canada has the issues it has. Everywhere in the world is claiming that same issue, it’s just not accurate. If governments wanted to solve the housing issue they could and swiftly.

I know Canada hasn’t banned landlords and I have no doubt they’re more interested in protecting the investments of the wealthy than they are interested in delivering better life outcomes for it’s people. So they by definition the people in charge can’t be progressives. This isn’t a purity test it’s a fundamental definition check. Maybe they’re progressives in terms of social rights but that’s only one of the government’s role.

Why does NDP or Green Party always fail find a “real progressive” leader time and time again?

Why do you hide behind the “progressive” label? Why not outright own the fact that you want full blown communism? Cuz it seems you want full blown “everyone is equal but some are more equal than others” communism.

Idk enough about Canadian politics to comment on the NDP or the greens. I’d love to do some reading, I imagine the same exact patterns would play out there as they’ve played out everywhere, which is the people in power are not people for the people.

I don’t want “full blown communism”, idk really what that even means. I’m positive you don’t either because of how you’re talking about it. What I do want is for you to own your business (or your share of the business if you work with others), the building you do your work in (or your share, etc), the tools you use to do your work, the profit of your work, the home you live in, and the right to do with your profits and your stuff as you see fit (as long as it doesn’t endanger anyone else). I also want the money you pay towards your community (taxes) to benefit you and your neighbors far more than it benefits the people who are necessary to administer those community benefits (small, efficient government) or the people who would attempt to corrupt those administers. That means univeral healthcare, that means robust public transit, that means free education and quality libraries and protected parks. That means renewable energy and strong regulatory bodies. That means a no more than sufficient sized military and strong trade bonds. That means easy immigration and emigration, so governments are held accountable via immigration.

I don’t care what you call that, but you have to recognize that as the best future for all people, the most cost efficient future, and the one that would do the most objectively good and good based on any major religion I think.
