t gauge model trains are tiny as fuck and i love them. they’re 1:450 scale and have a track gauge of only 3mm. sadly they don’t have a lot of support so you’re very limited for choice of models unless you’re willing to kitbash. but it’s good for people like me who enjoy making the surrounding scenery

Trying to articulate something that bugs me, but something I’ve noticed well meaning libs constantly bring up is “trans people being 1% of the population”. As if the big problem is that it’s mean republicans are picking on a tiny minority.
And I feel I need to address, that of course we know trans people are probably more than 1% of the populations, we know that in more trans inclusive (but definitely not perfect) cultures the percentage of binary trans people is around 3%, and that number is probably higher if you removed a lot more of the barriers, as well a non-binary people who the demographics are probably comparable to bisexuals, in that lots of non-binary people are being counted as cis, because they don’t have the understanding or safety to express their true gender.
Allso that that statement also suggests that I don’t know there’s like an acceptable cap on trans people, when we know it would be totally fine (and in fact super cool) to live in a society where we were the majority.
But the real thing that bugs me, is even if trans people were 1% of the population…1% percent of the population is common! In epidemiology a common condition is usually something that affects 1 in 10 to 100 people. If it was 1%, people being trans is on the borderline with uncommon, which is usually 1 to 100 to 1000 people.
For example Parkinson’s disease affects 1 in 300 Americans. Being trans is 3x more common than having Parkinson’s disease! Cuban-Americans are 7 in 1000 in the USA! It’s more common for an American to be trans than Cuban-American!
And I think about how many First Nation’s scholars have pointed out that by presenting a group of people as being decimated, diminished or ultimately dying out, it’s prepares people for that groups inevitable assimilation or exctinction. So no trans people ARE common, there’s fuckloads of us, there should be more and we’re not going away.
Even if the 1% is true thats 80 million ppl, or 3 million just in the US, a number thats a lot harder to claim is an insignificantly tiny group

In Samoa the population of fa’afafine (people presumed male at birth but live as women who have widespread social acceptance) is estimated at around 1-5%.
Some western studies suggest autistic people are 6 times more likely to be trans which is somewhere around 3-6% (but includes non binary people)
I think that at least 3% would be the number of binary trans people if society wasn’t a fuck and it was accepted and supported.
I don’t find it to be a high estimate, tho. Just look at how much residual transphobia there is in our culture, it’s a given that a large number of trans people in such a social climate, if not the majority, are still repping heavily.
No maybe not… it feels like a lot of people though. Even though I do logically agree a lot of people are maybe even subconsciously repping. If not for a happy accident I certainly wouldn’t have any clue I was trans.
The thing I think about is homosexuality/bisexuality (obviously not a 1:1 comparison), but if society is aggressively homophobic only 100% homosexual people will be homosexual. The heteroflexible, bisexual, and even homoflexible, will all end up in heterosexual passing relationships.
It’s like that I think with sex/gender. We know people have varying ranges of dysphoria and gender expression, in a more permissive society, a lot of people who can get by or partially tolerate being cis-passing might actually transition and be much happier.

On a good note I have progressed a lot with my friend that wants to understand politics, he even read Albert Einstein’s Why socialism?. His work schedule is kinda weird so he only gets to reply to my messages ~1 AM, so for now I asked him what he liked about it, if anything he wanted to talk about, or any questions he has before we proceed. Previously we used One Piece to start this, we talked a bunch about Enies Lobby, and how Robin is a victim of genocide and how that relates to real life like Israel and the Palestinian genocide.
